My collection of screws/nails/fasteners is the most disorganized part of my tool room. I either stack boxes on a shelf, throw them in a random bin, or stick misc items in an old jar. I often buy duplicates for products because I didn't notice I had half a box of 2.5" exterior screws.

I thought about jars but I'd rather not use glass. Do yall have any tips, photos, or products that have helped? My tool room is usually pretty organized except for screws and such.

TIA

Eta: here's an example. I opened a craftsman bin that'd been sitting in a corner for a long time. Had no idea it was full of screws and such.

I do what you do but instead of buying duplicates I assume I have the screws I need only to find out that I don't.

Harbor freight has boxes individual cups (I guess you call it cups) that you can separate small items into. I’ve been steadily cleaning up my multiple “bin of fasteners” like this. What’s good is say you need 1.25” outdoor screws. You can just pull that cup out instead of a divider type box where you have to bring the whole box.

They have a shallow version and a deep version.

I use Kraft mayonnaise jars. A lot of them. Also some squarish peanut jars and peanut butter jars. All plastic and I have about 50 of them, but I save them all because I’m always needing more. Easy to display, can stack a couple of jars high if need be, and to do a project just grab whatever jar you need and take it to the work area.

Agree that glass jars are a bad idea. I used to have a setup that had the jar lids screwed to a board with the jars hanging down and just unscrew the jar and take out what you need. That’s okay if you don’t have 5 lbs of deck screws but a bunch of smaller stuff it works fine.

I’ve been using the small boxes/bins that stack together. Also some Tupperware style boxes from Home Depot for the larger screws or things I have more of.

I used old plastic containers (monster snacks from target, crab boil containers) wash them out and screw the tops under my work bench. All separated by length and just hope I have the right size or type that I need for the project
