Entergy thermostat offer

Entergy sent out an offer for several options for "upgraded" thermostats for a penny.
I was wondering if this is worth doing and if so, then which would be best choice.

Thoughts, experiences or suggestions?

Then when they want, they can control your home thermostat? They can override it.

I ordered the Amazon version last week. They say it's a penny but when you check out there is nothing charged. I figure I can easily swap back if I don't like it. It's free so why not try it?

They just want to be able to control your thermostat.

So you figure that Entergy and Amazon and a few manufacturers of thermostats are involved in a conspiracy to set your temperature more than they can already do with a brown out?
Not criticizing, but we have "smart" thermostats at a couple of buildings now and they seem to be doing pretty well so far.

I bet you think your smart phone manufacturer isn't constantly collecting your personal data and selling it

I got one. It ends up being $15.00. $5 in taxes and $10 in shipping. The two Honeywells were sold out. I got the Sensi because the Amazon doesn't support Google Home.

On my Ecobee you can go into the menu & turn off eco savings features that gives your permission to allow the power co to control your thermostat.
Also if your thermostat is not connected to wifi the power co can’t control your thermostat.
My Ecobee is connected to wifi with eco savings permissions turned off. I do allow Ecobee to collect data & I get a monthly report showing data like how many hours my AC was running for the month, avg indoor & outdoor temps, etc

I know this. Apparently you do as well.
This country is full of idiots though.

And if they do this, you can just swap it back out in 5 minutes.

Then why install in the first place?

It's almost free and it will save you some money on your power bill if you program it to adjust the temps when your at work or not at home. If your paranoid the power co will adjust your setting. Don't connect it to wifi.

I keep a dumb digital thermostat for this exact reason. If my wifi thermostats lock me out I'm just pulling them off the wall and going low tech again.

If you got in first 1500 no tax or shipping. I paid .01 for Honeywell.

Sounds like someone took Economics 10something, I think 1030, at LSU back in the day.
Was my first class at LSU, and the first thing said in that class was “there’s no such thing as a free lunch”. Then we all argued about it in an auditorium of 200 know it all 19 year olds.
