Drought and Lawn

No sprinkler system and haven't gone out to set up lawn sprinkler. Grass looks horrible. Will it die since there's no rain in forecast? Will it bounce back once we get rain?

I throw in the towel....
Rains for 45 days, root rot sets in
VBW takes over
Now, a drouhgt....

I have a sprinkler system but even with that it's struggling. Hoping it gets cold quickly so it goes dormant.

What kind of grass? My bermuda doesn't give a shite. It'll go dormant, come back. It also stays green in a drought much better than neighbors' fescue. Nights in the 50s now, so it's not going to grow anymore this year. Only problem with bermuda is it will grow anywhere, like up into bushes and up walls. Bermuda grass and cockroaches will be all that is left after nuclear winter.

It will die if it isn't watered. Bermuda is really the only that will bounce back with very little water.

I still stand by Bermuda as the best lawn turf. Cheap, Drought resistant, takes chemicals well, and loves nitrogen.

First off, no expert on lawn care here and I have put my trust in some very knowledgable people on this forum for my lawn care.
Recently, late June, had a new centipede sod lawn installed and with all the rain, was doing great! The drought has taken a toll on the grass in the areas directly surrounding the oak trees on my lot. We have consistently watered the last couple weeks at the first sign of distress. We watered approx. 20 to 30 minutes at a time with oscillating sprinklers until the lawn had gotten some water. The only areas that seemed to benefit from this watering duration were in the lower areas and areas outside of the tree canopies. Just last week I increased the watering duration to 45 minutes in the areas under the trees and have seen more green show in these areas now. So 45 minute soaking seems to work best in the most stressed areas of my lawn and 20 minute watering in the lower areas outside of the tree canopy. Good luck!

I've had to water. Put out pre-em today with soil temps getting close to 70 deg, so I'm going to be forced to water again.

I've been moving a sprinkler every 30 minutes since reading your response!

You need to keep watering. Centipede going into early dormancy due to drought stress is much more likely to experience winter kill and at a minimum take much longer to green up in the spring.
I’ve been watering thru this entire drought. All of the yards in my hood are brown except mine…..except for the spots where the fungus got me

Thanks
Greened up already where I have watered
What a drag moving an oscilating sprinkler around over 10,000 sq. ft. of grass
