Daikin acquired Goodman in August 2012 for $3.7 billion. This purchase transformed Daikin into the world’s largest HVAC manufacturer by securing a dominant position in the North American residential market.

Rebranding: Effective April 1, 2022, the corporate entity was renamed Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc. to unify its brand identity.

Key Brands: Under this ownership, Daikin manages the Goodman, Amana, and Quietflex HVAC lines.

Facilities: Operations are consolidated at the Daikin Texas Technology Park in Houston, a 4.1 million square foot facility opened in 2017.

Likely as good any other name brand in the HVAC industry. One potential upside is the entire line of Daikan products use R-32 refrigerant, where the rest of the USA HVAC industry chose to go with R-454B refrigerant. R454B, at least for sometime, was difficult to get and uber expensive, much more so than R-32, causing some major issues for HVAC firms and of course their clients. More than a few HVAC firms, small independents, switched to installing Daikan products for this reason alone.

R-32 refrigerant is a pure refrigerant with a long history of use. R454B is blended refrigerant of R-32 + R1234yf. Watch the first 5 to 10 min of this tech’s video, he’ll explain why he prefers R-32.

FWIW, R-410A which most older residential systems have is a blend of R-32 + R125. The old R-22, good stuff, was a pure refrigerant, but phased out by EPA some years back b/c of its high Global Warming Potential (GWP). R410A is being phased out for the same reason.

My BIL is in A/C business and says they are fine.
Obviously, more pricey but he really raves over the Bosch system

Just got one. Time will tell I guess. Not any cheaper than Trane, York, etc. My next door neighbor owns the local HVAC company and it’s their go-to now. Known him long enough to know he wouldn’t push a brand on me to make a buck if it wasn’t a solid product.
