What cutoff wheel did you use in your grinder? Did you just cut straight through it, or did you do one side at a time and rotate the beam after each side?
Not a bad idea about measuring from the bottom but ultimately I don't care how tall they are. I just know that they are about an inch and a quarter too tall.

I just used some of the cheap cut off wheels that I had from Harbor Freight. They’re probably a couple of dollars more at Lowe’s but work the same. LINK
I cut as much I could on a side and then would rotate the upright. I mentioned measuring them because I started to cut an inch off mine and realized I needed an inch and a half.
