Can we talk laser levels?

I have finally fixed my garage ceiling and painted it so i'm ready to hang my 'kmart-style' 16ft LED strips every 4 feet across my garage (6 rows).
i have one of those little self-centering lasers you set on the floor or stick to the wall and it draws a 'cross x' which is great for getting a straight line, i just want to ensure 2 things
1. that line is parallel to my walls
2. the end of the light strips always start at the same place since these won't go wall-to-wall.
is it enough to just measure the laser line from the wall using a regular tape measure to ensure its square or is there something i can do w/ the laser itself to be confident its square?
the unit i have is this

Better check the walls to make sure they are square.

Maybe 3,4,5 the perpendicular lines of the laser. 3 inches up, 4 inches over, and the hypotenuse should be 5 if it is a true 90* angle.

That assumes your walls and/or floor you're measuring from are square, which they're not.
It's pretty hard for them too get far off level unless you throw them around. Even if they're off 1/8" over 96ish inches, that's still pretty damn good. Again, I guarantee your walls are out of square and you've never noticed, so you won't notice the 1/8"

If you really want parallel. . .
You can shoot a line from front of garage to back and then measure over from the wall to laser line in a couple places. Move the level around until you get the same measurement. However I'd not expect both (left and right) walls to be perfectly parallel to each other. Which you now check by measuring from opposite wall back to your previously adjusted/parallel to other wall laser line.
Possibly what you'd rather have is center. . .
First find center of the front. Moving and measuring left and right to laser line until it's center. Then stick a piece of blue tape on that dot of light on the ceiling and pencil mark it. Do the same on rear. Then use laser to connect the two ceiling dots. Mount center LED then measure over to either side and put up the next two LED's and repeat till done.

The unit you should have gotten looks like this:
I have the Bosch version of the one you have for hanging pictures, building small closet shelving, etc. I have the 3-way laser level for flooring, decks, fixtures, etc. Can put either on a camera tripod for easier setup.
