Spot sprayed in April/May, then cut my grass at a much higher level and less frequently....seems to have help choke out the VBW and other weeds? My grass seems to be spreading and covering much better....

I do know that cutting VBW can spread the seeds and compound the problem.....

Grass experts: tell me if I am crazy....LOL All I know is I have ZERO VBW in my yard and normally by now it is loaded.

I had a pretty good success with spraying Mansion on the little I had. Killed it in about 3 weeks.

Nope…I maintain two yards 300 miles apart and buttonweed is a problem in both. Never been a problem in either yard before.

ETA: I guess buttonweed has taken the place of chamber bitter, which has been prevalent the past couple of years.

I’m covered in both. Maybe one day I will attack them.

Ive given up on ever controlling it since every time it rains water from the shitty lawns up the street flows over my yard. I wish there was a preemergent for it.

I have some buttonweed but it’s not as bad as it has been in the past. Doveweed is a HUGE problem for me this year.

My brother and I were talking about the doveweed earlier. It's been the worst ive ever seen it, same for him. He did a broadcast celsius application yesterday evening. It was getting so bad for him he didnt care if he burns the shite out of his grass.

Well spraying VBW, and any other lawn weed for that matter, early in the year when immature increases the efficacy of the herbicide to control-suppress it, and cutting lawn grass at the proper height to shade weeds to suppress their growth, have been ag extension university recommendations for decades, and frequently recommended on this board, so glad you “discovered” this……lol.

However, VBW is seldom-rarely controlled in a single year so continue to keep an eye out for it through Oct. Once it matures & flowers it’s difficult to kill. VBW spreads by 4 means, above ground stolons, underground rhizomes, and above and below ground seeds. It’s why it is so difficult to eliminate in a single season of lawn growth.

Specticle pre-emergent applied in late April-early May, at soil temp of 70 F. Pricey but very effective in control of Doveweed.

I thought I had mine under control. I plugged and sanded last year and I swear that spread the shite out of it but I could be wrong. I just did a heavy Celsius application and it’s already starting to turn it yellow in 3 days. Hope it works.

ALL,
Thanks for the info.......

Sounds like I am pretty lucky so far....

But, I do think the high grass works....thanks Crawdude.

Question: Does anybody think that that the snow/freeze last year made a difference?

It's just hiding, I battled it 3 yrs, was spot spraying everytime I saw a leaf, MSM will absolutely knock it back, it will rear it's ugly head again, I noticed Friday a few random spots of it in some new places, my big problem this year is spurge and Kyllinga, have to order some more DISMISS for it and nutsedge, my bottle lasted 3 yrs

When I moved to NW Arkansas four years ago I was so happy that Virginia Buttonweed was not here. But the last two years I have started to see some more and more. As I see any I spray with 41% glyphosate to kill it along with my good grass to keep it from taking over.

Cutting the grass high is pretty much the only weed control I do for my St Aug and I am weed free.

Occasional weed pulling, occasional fertilizer and treat for web worms if needed. If I keep the grass healthy it will choke out undesirables.

I do get what looks like fungal issues this time of year. Any recs for this would be appreciated.

Propiconazole

This has worked very well for me.
