best top load, non H-E washer?
Time to replace my washer. I want a top load machine, prefer non H-E. Is Speed Queen my best bet? TIA.

Speed Queen TC5/DC5.

Do not get the TR/DR Model as the agitator is fixed to the drum and not independent.

We got the TR5 I believe

We wanted the central agitator since it definitely washes the clothes better

speed queen bruh. I bought one 2 years ago. best thing i've done. the new ones had a couple of things doen to them like locking lid and water efficiency BUT you can override it and still fill the basin up with water

All you Speed Queen fans, tell me your make & model. Also, who's the local (SE LA) Speed Queen dealers? Or should I buy online thru someone like AJ Madison?

My mom has a SQ, after buying and loathing 3 diff washers in a 10 year period.

There's a place in Amite where you can probably get the best price on the speed queen. I'll have to look it up to remember the name.

I just had my 1.5 yr old GE repaired for $200. My repairman, who I have used for other things around the kitchen, said every washer on the market now is cheap overseas made crap. He said the only washer worth buying is a speed queen. American made and all of their residential washers are made with commercial parts. Costs more but he said its the only one he would buy.

Same here - keep waiting on the Cabrio to die so I can buy a Speed Queen, keeps making noise from the transmission area like it going too but it won’t give up the ghost.

That's the "cutoff" point my repairman said.... get our washer fixed until the word Transmission is mentioned. Then get a Speed Queen or older mechanical washer with agitator.

I got one with the analog controls. No more digital crap. Get one with tried and true analog controls and you will be fine.

Another nice thing about Speed Queen, they actually use water to clean clothes. So if you have had an HE for years, there may be soap buildup in the drain line because of insufficient water to flush it out. As soon as we installed the SQ, we had to snake the line to allow for sufficient flow. All good ever since.

I just spent a bunch of time going thru the Speed Queen website, and it seems that the models with turn-dials are still depending on an electronic circuit board. The controls are not truly analog.

I think that was the conclusion from a post a month or so on washers on the this board that one can not find a new washer with a true mechanical analog timer anymore, regardless of brand or price, unless you purchase a used, older model with one. I guess if you think about, it’s cheaper to use mass produced circuit boards made in China for pennies than a true mechinical timer with gears and springs.
