I am going on my sixth season with a Big Dog 42” with that great Kawasaki engine. Really dependable. Big Dog doesn’t make that model anymore but it is the same platform (factory) as the Hustler.

I had a 33” Snapper ZTR for 6-7 years but wanted wider cut. Also had a John Deere from Home Depot but it was money pit and sold it.

Listen to others in this thread. Shop at Gautreaux’s or K&D Rental for dependably backed mowers. You’re not saving money at big box stores.

I'm on the Northshore so I would prefer something local. I will go to Paige Lawnmower to to see what they have.

There isn't anything wrong with buying the mower for the purpose you intend to use it. I wouldn't necessarily shy away from the box store mowers if you're mowing flat ground that doesn't have rocks and roots to hang on. I only made the comment to say that it isn't the same mower at Home Depot that your local mower shop is selling.

I have mowed with the box store brands that have hit stuff, and they bend and break much easier. I've hit some stuff pretty hard with my gravely unintentionally and haven't ever had an issue.

The exmark quest 50

Get great service at dealer, super easy to service yourself. Good deck, three blades. Can buy it for 4100.

Some will balk at the kohler engine but mine has been flawless after three years of weekly use

Get as much HP and deck size as you’re willing to pay for.

Only if you are mowing relatively flat land. Get a deck that makes sense, will fit between obstacles you are mowing around and go 48" inches or smaller if your yard isn't very most level; wider decks aren't going to flex over ridges, through dips or squeeze between trees.

I bought a greenworks electric last year. 4 60V batteries plus the chargers.
Does My almost two acres on one charge. Absolutely love this mower and it is so cool, no gas ,no oil changes, no belts cuts grass better than my neighbors Scag and it is quiet enough to mow at anytime. It has never bogged down on any height of grass ever, very powerful. Batteries were not cheap $375 each w charger but have a four year warranty.

At this point I'm considering just getting a lawn tractor. Half the price and after 15 years of u one, I guess it will do everything I need it to do.

I looked at a Gravely ZT X 42" that was super nice. If I end up going with a zero turn, that's the one I'm going with.

I cut about 2 acres and I have had my 42 inch Hustler Raptor for the last 8 years and I get it serviced almost every year and I don't go fast over roulots or the cypress knees in my yard. I blow it off when I am done as well. Has a kohler engine as well. I have had to replace the battery 4-5 times. Great mower
