Curious if anyone has ever installed one, or has experience with them to know if they're even worth it?

Reviews claim that there is a noticeable difference with a heat gun, and if so I'm thinking about buying one since they're only $50 and look super easy to install.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about, Amazon Link

I bought the triangular shaped one from Home Depot, reinforced with some small PVC frame and use it. Not sure how much it actually helps though.

Thanks for posting this. Been thinking about getting one recently. My return air is not far enough away from the attic door, and if too many other doors around it are closed it will pull attic air through it and it creates a circular loop where the rest of the house is getting under 70 degrees while the AC still thinks its 76 in the house. I'm wondering if something like this won't seal off the attic air better and it will then start pulling more air from beneath any closed doors.

I made one out of a 4x8 foam insulation sheet and some foil duct tape for about $15-20. Using a digital infrared thermometer the the interior ceiling temp on the attic step door dropped from high 80-90s to room temperature. The steps are in my hall above the area thermostat and really helped lower the temp in the hall which made my thermostat temp read much higher than the rest of the house and cause the AC to run more often.

Google pics similar to what mine looks like.

Awesome, exactly what I was hoping. I think it's actually worse for me in terms of heat escape from the attic because my attic door isn't exactly flush with the opening there is a slight crack so I'm hoping this will help even more than average.

I'm gonna pull the trigger. I like you're design but at only $30 extra I'll prob save myself the time and order one from amazon.

I looked at buying one but making one allows you to make it the exact size you need. The stapling it in place wouldn't work for me either and the zipping it open and closed looked to be a pain in the arse. I can just lift mine and set it aside when I need to get in the attic. Another thing that will help is installing some weather stripping on the door frame to help get a good seal.

I have one similar to the one Rush Limbaugh is making there. Seems to be a noticeable difference when you put it on.

I installed one that has built-in insulation, installed insulated zippered covers for one at my parent's house. Mine has sealing gaskets where the door meets the frame and that seems to offer somewhat better overall insulation ability vs. just the cover. Anything with a radiant barrier will help though.

Just get a big thick piece of foam board insulation glue magnets on both insulation and the opening

I just installed one in a house. The attic access was in a very small hallway and hot air was coming out of the attic when closed causing the crown to sweat and mildew. Added one of these and the problem was solved.
