Anybody have one? After lugging all the christmas decorations up the pull down stairs I'm considering one. What brands, who installs, ballpark pricing, etc etc etc?

Im not familiar with an attic lift, but coastal communities often use “cargo lifts” to get to the upper floors.

I had one installed one on our new build and it was about $7800.

That was about $6800 plus 1000 for installation. It has a 1000 pound capacity and is “not for human use”.

Obviously, how much you have to prep for this would be a large cost factor, but it’s a starting point. Search cargo lift and Im sure you’ll see plenty of options.

My dad had one installed on their new house they built about a year ago. He loves that thing. No idea the cost but he got it delivered for free and his contractor installed it with the help of the lift guys.

I just finished installing a lift for my attic stairs this weekend. There are a bunch of videos on YouTube that you can diy. I did mine based off of a ladder lift roofers use to get shingles onto a roof.

I built a 2x4 rectangle frame and have a sled that gets pulled up by a hand winch. I power the winch with my drill, so I don’t have to manually crank. It’s not too hard of a project and makes getting things into the attic easier.

There’s a bunch of videos of actual lifts that go straight into the attic, but that just depends on if you have the space and framing to basically build an elevator or not.

I just built a TuffShed in the back yard and put all the Christmas stuff in there. I use a dolly to move everything back and forth. Saved my back, legs and shoulders.

My son (15y) and I have a system. I go in the attic and he’s at the bottom of the stairs. I installed a pulley on a rafter directly above the attic stairs and 50ft of rope with a big carabiner. My wife has has a ton of Christmas stuff but we lower it down or put it up in about 5 mins. Now if you fancy, you can install a harbor freight winch above the attic stairs and not have to do much manual work at all. My wife’s 73y old uncle did that and it’s awesome. I would definitely do that if I was older and didn’t have a teenage son to help.

Versalift

Paid about $2k for it in 2017. That was uninstalled. I wouldn’t build a new house with an attic without this or something similar.

I saw this the other day on youtube. I make no opinions. I certainly would not use it for people to ride, but it looked awesome to get stuff into the attic without dealing with carrying stuff up the pull down ladder.
