Astro turf in your yard?

Anyone put Astro turf in their yard Bc they only need or have space for a little “grass”? I’m considering putting in a pool and replacing the actual grass with artificial Grass so my dog still has somewhere to potty. Can also still put chairs etc on it.
What brand did you go with? Glad you did?

Just train your dog to use a toilet. Simple.

I have a small strip of grass on the north side of my house that is about 5-6 wide. It gets very little sun and stays damp, and it is where my pool equipment is located. Anytime I mess with the equipment I track mud back onto my pool deck.
I live in Mandeville and have called 2 different companies in NOLA that advertise astroturf, and neither have called me back to schedule a time to look at it. I have a company from Covington scheduled to come this weekend to take a look.
We have a dog that uses the grassy area of the back yard, but one of my main questions besides drainage is how it handles dog urine, because I'm sure Rover will eventually try to christen it.

Does the stuff they put down now have a better filler than the crushed tires? I've considered it for parts of my yard before but have read mixed reviews on the upkeep, having to water it to keep it cooler, cleaning it, etc.

I have not pulled the trigger on artificial turf in my backyard just yet, but I have been considering it for a while. The biggest thing holding me back (besides $$,$$$.$$) is the fact that it raises the temperature in your backyard. If I wanted to sit poolside and watch the kids splash around, I don’t want to be 20 degrees hotter than I absolutely have to be.
In terms of dog urine, I don’t believe that will be an issue. The turf can handle that.

My BIL has it at his house. No issue with the dog and it looks really good.

Keep us updated as I just installed a a 10k gallon above ground pool (muh white trash pool) and I have a very shady backyard that is nothing but slush and weeds. I would like to do some kind of Astro turf, but I would imagine it is expensive?

When I lived in California artificial turf was fairly common especially in backyards. I got a few quotes and it was outrageously expensive. Also knew some people who had to hose it down often or the pet urine would stink although Louisiana should get enough rain to make that less of a problem. I can't imagine it's a good idea to put it down in soft wet areas that don't drain well though. That would cause all sorts of issues so drainage would be important.
I also had a neighbor who had issues with spots of his turf having the color bleached out and needing to be replaced. It turns out it was from the sun reflecting off of windows causing hot spots...

Back when I was a kid in the 1970's there was this family that had an astro turf yard. At first it was just a dad and his three sons and a maid. The Dad met this lady with three daughters and they got married. Those kids were lucky they never had to cut grass in the hot summer. They also had a dog named Tiger. He used to pee on the astro turf. One day he just disappeared and we never saw him again.
