Hardie board and batten covering the whole house.

Man this is going to look dated in no time.

What's old is new again. It's on a lot of the "farm" style houses around here. I don't mind it though, and it's a great way to break up the monotony of horizontal siding.

Coupled with a mix of shingles and a separated metal roof section.

I don’t hate it, but feel it’s a trend that will date homes from this time period.

True board and batten? Or board on board?

My house’s exterior is cedar, vertical board on board and, to me, it looks great. Growing up, I never saw houses like this so I never considered it a dated look. I guess perspective is everything.

Board and batten looks weird though. I understand the reason for it, but it just looks dinky.

Is it the vertical application you don’t like? It’s much faster to clean than material that’s been horizontally applied, I think.

No matter what is built, it will look dated at some point. I bet people building this flat roof houses in the 50s and 60s thought that would look modern forever.

Seems like every new build in my neighborhood less than 5,000 sq ft has that ugly Chip and Joanna Gaines white vertical batten exterior with black shutters.

Looks outdated before it's even occupied.

Just wait until they figure out how much it takes to keep that nice board and batten clean!

Yea ,I don’t know man, we do a lot of b&b on most of our high end (mobile)bay homes . That’s what most of the original homes had along with standard lap siding.
As timeless as it gets imo.

You want to know what looks like shite,

Brick and especially stucco….

I’ve seen it pop up around nola recently. My vote would be keep it in the mountain towns or beach houses.

Ha, I’m not talking about actually wood farmhouses. I’m talking about these things popping up all over neighborhoods…

Looks much better than the French Acadian style that has been dominant in South Louisiana since the 80's.

I’ve got both horizontal hardie and B&B. I think it looks fine. What an odd position by OP.

Everyone has their own taste, but I see way more brick and stucco houses than Acadian style houses in South Louisiana.
