The wind yesterday evening somehow blew some ant poison (active ingredient : Bifenthrin .20%) into my pool. Was there overnight and we found it this morning. I just did a SLAM to get rid of mustard algae so my chlorine is still in the teens. Do ya'll think my pool is safe to swim in? I've looked and it seems like it should be fine. I really don't want to have to drain this thing

How much are you talking about? I don't really have an answer except that quantity matters. Muractic acid and chlorine are pretty bad for your health on their own, but when mixed into your pool in the right amount, they are harmless.

I would doubt that 0.20% in a large volume of water would be very harmful, unless your talking several pounds of it being dumped into the pool.

there was a little less than half the bag, if i had to guess. So like.... 3-4 cups at the most

ETA: 13,000 Gallon saltwater pool

Take a shovel and scoop a shovel full and throw them in the pool. If they don't die, you are good.

Damn good question. My hunch based on this is you're fine. I'm no expert on safety data sheets, but the fact that it recommends cleaning the area of a spill with bleach suggests perhaps that neutralizes or breaks it down?

Safety Data Sheet on one line of bifenthrin product

EYE: Practically non-irritating to the eyes.
SKIN CONTACT: Practically non-irritating to the skin.
May cause slight skin irritation with prolonged
or repeated contact. Skin sensations such as rashes, numbing, burning, or tingling may occur in certain
individuals. These skin sensations are reversible and usually subside within 12 hours.
SKIN ABSORPTION: The acute dermal toxicity is considered to be low. The dermal LD50 for rabbits is greater than 5050 mg/kg.

SPILLS OR LEAKS: Wear protective clothing as described in Section VII (Personal Protection and
Precautions) of this MSDS. Absorb liquid with material such as clay, sand, sawdust, or dirt. Sweep up
and place in a suitable container for disposal and label the contents. Area can be washed down with a
suitable solution of bleach
or soda ash and an appropriate alcohol (methanol, ethanol, or isopropanol).
Follow this by washing with a strong soap and water solution. Absorb any excess liquid as indicated
above, and add to the disposal container. Keep product, contaminated materials and wash water out of
streams and sewers. Wash exposed body areas thoroughly after handling.

Your looking at a concentration of 0.0385 ppm of Bifenthrin in your pool. Not terribly strong, but when I consider that it has a fairly short half-life in water due to UV degradation, and can bio-accumulate in humans longer-term...

I'd tell my kids to stay out of the pool for a week and keep it churning 24 hours a day.
