I need a new dryer and want to get a Speed Queen. Does anyone know which model is the most reliable basic model?

DC5 is what you are looking for. We have a DC7, for 6.5 years now. Had to have the heating element replaced twice, the thermal fuse 6 times and the sensor twice. As long as we don’t put in large loads we won’t cook the fuse. We have to timed dry for everything because the sensor is garbage. The warranty is great, we’ve used the hell out of it. Will probably extend the warranty when it comes up. The washer is awesome tho.

Had a Speed Queen dryer . It was an absolute piece of shite that needed like 4 repairs over 3-4 year period.

People here claim to love them. I’ll never buy that shite again. Garbage.

I wouldn’t call this much of an endorsement. Quite the opposite.

Are you keeping your vent pipe clean?

although I have one, I don't think there's as much advantage getting a SQ dryer as there is for a washer...IMO, any standard brand dryer will do

Had the DC7 for 10 years now. The dryer has had 0 issues. The washer I have had to have repaired twice by our own doing. Wife overloading it to the max and it slipping a belt or burning it up.

I’m currently fighting SQ’s warranty program right now. The dryer has been leaving black marks on our clothes, sheets and pillow cases for 8 weeks now. They’ve sent a repair man out 4 times, and is even coming today, to “fix” the issue. They’re replacing the entire drum today and still just won’t replace it with a new one. I am currently trying to get reimbursed for all the clothes and sheets it’s ruined but that seems like a pointless task at this point. Their washing machine is great but the dryer and their warranty can go pound sand.

Its the vent grill on the back wall of dryer. It will get hot enough to melt synthetics and build up a residue. Then the next batch it gets hot and other clothes wipe off the grill as it tumbles.

There is a fix for it. Pretty sure it was covered under my warranty or recall.

I’ve had a non SQ for like 10 years with zero issues. You just need better luck.

Any idea what the fix was?

Thanks!

I want to say it was a new grill made of a different material. Super easy swap.

They did it the same time the element went out and were repairing it anyway. I would assume any competent speed queen dealer would be aware of it if you questioned them about it.

Yep. Learned that lesson many years ago.
It’s mainly comforters or large blankets that was the cause of the blown thermal fuse. We never noticed it right away so we didn’t put it together immediately

Don't buy one; just get a decent one of another brand. My SQ lasted just long enough for the parts to be too expensive to make any repairs myself.

If your constantly popping thermal fuses you need to have your vents cleaned. I see so many buy new dryers because of this and the new dryers also pop fuses. Clogged vents burn out thermal fuses.
