I'm about to add fans to the back patio because Louisiana. The patio is roughly 12'x24'. Spoke with the electrician yesterday and he suggested oscillating fans just hung in the corners. Anyone have experience with these instead of ceiling hung fans? Suggestions are welcomed as well.

ceiling fans will move the air more consistently IMO

I have fans under the patio and they don't do too much good in my case. I now use a belt driven drum fan. Moves a lot more air and is pretty quiet. Versatile too!

Just another option that may work for you depending on your setup.

My patio is not enclosed.

yep the oscillating fans just hung in the corners work best

the problem with ceiling fans is no matter what kind you buy the blades will droop and need replacement every couple of years plus the air they move isnt as good in an open outdoor space, it just kinda fans out to nothing much at all.

oscillating fans just hung in the corners will work much better, be much quieter, and above all they will last much longer

Hunter makes outdoor fans. Previous house had 15 year old blades without droop. But I don’t recommend ceiling fans for outdoors.

Any suggestions on the oscillating fans? There doesn’t seem to be too many options. Looking for something that’d be turn on with a switch inside the house and not on the fan itself

Just bought this one to mount on my back porch but haven’t mounted it yet.

I have two ceiling fans and three oscillating fans in my outdoor space. I just replaced the ceiling fans to Minka Air extreme H2O 65” and they make a much bigger difference than the old ceiling fans that didn’t move much air. The oscillating fans I have don't move much air at all. Talking to an outdoor space builder he said good fans will move air better than oscillating fans.

I'm about to do the same thing on my back patio cover i just had installed. Post pics when you're done. I went and looked at some at lighting inc on earhart. I'm thinking of getting 2 of these for the corners.

I own one very similar to this one. Installed it about three years ago. Game changer for the patio. Makes sitting out there completely enjoyable.

Bought it at Home Depot or Lowes for under $200.

I have two of these Fanimation on my patio. They move plenty of air but I also keep a few high velocity fans under the patio for the dogs and for whenever we are out there.

Are these compatible with the Fanimation App? I also have Fanimation fans and the app works significantly better than the remote control. It connects through Bluetooth.

if you put ceiling fans, keep them on 24/7 and they won't droop.

I don’t think mine are. I believe you have to put the receiver in it for it to work. I have the remotes, they work well enough.

I had this same issue. My back patio is 20x20. A few years ago I changed the ceiling fan with this Kensgrove 72". Sitting under it, it moves plenty of air.

Last year I also added these fans for just 2 of the corners to get more air flow across the patio. Air King is the only way to go. Mine move PLENTY of air while not being nearly as loud as a drum fan (had multiple ones over the years). Also very stout mounting. Many different options with this brand as far as size, cfm, hp. I wired these into the same switch as my ceiling fan and can turn them off or change speeds with just a pull of the rope. I got the ceiling mount because most people have better luck with this style mount compared to the wall mount which may sag overtime.
