I’d like to be able to hookup a garden hose under my sink in order to make my home brewing hobby more enjoyable during the hot summer months. I would imagine I could tee into the water supply, but I need someone to talk to me like I’m 5 in the way of telling me what I need to buy to make this happen. Oh, and how to do it. Please and thanks!

Likely you have a shutoff coming directly out of the wall. It looks something like this...

Get us a pic of that and it will help some.

Likely this is going to be more involved than you want to deal with (and more involved than it is worth), but you can get help here. While you are at it take a pic of your faucet. There are attachments that hook directly to your faucet that will make this much easier.

Pic 1

Here's a picture of my sink faucet with the handle unscrewed. Any ideas?

Go this route. Very easy and less plumbing work needed

they make under sink dual tap valves for running dishwashers

just replace your cold water side with one of those and you have a water line you can run wherever you want to and then put a shut off valve for it

What are you going to be hooking up to this hose?

This may be a good case for a back flow preventer on the hose connection.

I’m using it for a home brewing application so I can brew my beer inside.

Forgive my ignorance but I’m not a brewer...so what exactly is the hose used for that a regular faucet with a pull out sprayer wouldn’t cover?

The back flow preventer would be highly recommended if you’re going to be putting a hose INTO a fluid/substance or anything where the end will be submerged.

Get a T, change out that old shutoff while you are at. Lowe’s or HD will have everything you need. You can do it all with threaded parts / adapters.

Or, solder in a T, add a new shutoff and hose bib.

Either way, I highly recommend a cap to screw on the hose bib or hose connector when not in use.

Does your faucet not have an end cap that can be unscrewed? Easy enough to attach a hose to the faucet.

I have a 30 plate chiller that I run cold water through In order to chill the wort (sugar water that becomes beer during fermentation). I have been brewing outside for years, but I would love to be able to do this inside.

I do the same to cool my beer but in the summer the water from the main is just too warm to get the wort below about 85. I don't think hooking into your kitchen sink pipe will change that, its still coming from the same mainline your outside hose is connected to. I have a big tub I fill with ice and set my chiller plate in that and then when the wort gets to 80 or so I transfer to my carboy and set it in the ice.

I just bought an SS Brewtech unitank fermenter so I think what I’ll do is just get it down as much as I can and then transfer it to the unitank and turn the chiller on until I hit pitching temps to pitch the yeast. Good to know there’s some home brewers here. I bought the Clawhammer 10 gal system so I’m looking forward to moving the brew day inside.

I use a 10 gal igloo cooler as a bucket with ice water and stick a cheap fountain pump in it to recirc through chiller.
