Supply houses are not supposed to sell retail.

I see you don't limit your trolling to the OB.

Most supply houses of any kind sell to the public. A small few don't. The worst are the ones that "sorta" sell to the public. Those just give intentional terrible service to diy'ers until they give up or learn to go elsewhere. There's 2 electrical houses in my area. One acts like you're a bother when you come in the door if they don't recognize you. The other is always helpful no matter you are.

You are incorrect with all of your post.

1) i am deep involved with ac tips and advice here.

2) you come in late in the game and immediately start trouble.

3) Most hvac supply houses do not sell to the public, and now includes the coursey blvd. Store mentioned .

4). You are just a blabber mouth punk trying to stir up trouble, and have no credentials in the trades field.

5) by now, you have embarrassed yourself badly. Remember cap, i hit back. Every time.

Yes they are! I went there today and they were out of my exact capacitor. The guy said it was a dual one. I asked him if there was any way I could get it working. He sold me 2 smaller ones and gave me instructions on how to connect the common terminals together and where to connect the fan and the compressor. Out the door with both for just over 20 bucks. Crimped some spade terminals on to a short piece of wire and connected it all like he said. Flipped the switch and it all came on, working great and blowing cold again! That's the best 20 bucks I ever spent. I have 2 of the correct capacitors on order so I can get my rig job taken out and have a spare. Best thing is my wife and son both think I'm more of a man now. What can't daddy fix! LOL

But but but EF douchon said you should still be sitting in the heat waiting on the $300 a/c service call

The hvac guys I know don’t want to get called out to change a capacitor, clean a unit, or find a filter that hasn’t been changed in 2 years. They want to do the jobs where there is a real problem.

This is the truth. Those things are an annoyance for a competent tech.... esp this time of year. However for the Efhuddons of the world, run caps and dirty filters are their bread and butter. We need to keep homeowners from buying basic repair parts so those guys can eat.

If you can’t get a supply house to sell you one in the BR area and in urgent need, St. Gabriel Hardware usually has a couple AmRad Turbo 200 capacitors on the shelf. Excellent American made capacitor that’s universal, meaning there are multiple spade connectors on top with jumper wires that allow you to set the proper microFarad units for the both the compressor and and fan motor for virtually any size capacitor. They are about $80-90 but will probably be the last capacitor you’ll need to buy.

FWIW, the labor per hour price is generally the same for every job from big to small jobs. Not a bad line of work to get into, but I do agree with the BS that the parts stores will put the public through.

As mentioned earlier Johnstone on Coursey will only sell if you have a license. We have a family member who works in HVAC and he had to put in a work order for the part but I was able to pick up. I paid him cash after. It’s a crock of shite. I don’t see why businesses will do they unless they are trying to avoid inexperienced homeowners return parts?

But yes, the labor rates are outrageous, but some people are unfortunately not able to do everything themselves.

The brand of each store dictates that parts are to be sold only to state licensed mechanical contractors. One reason is the warranty honoring. Not every yahoo can distinguish fault - is it the 700 dollar 16 pin ecm motor, or, is it the 500 dollar board ? You have to know how to diagnose. Neither part is returnable.

Even within the trade, we have some knuckleheads. Warranty knows a parts changer and if they see a motor and board being claimed, many times it gets flagged and not approved, until Tech Support Carrier ( Goodman, etc) can talk to the tech, and may flag changed parts for return to the lab. If tested and part is good, the contractor will not get his credit on his account.

A second reason is to protect the trade period.

To be honest, the big money is in change outs, January to may 1. Cooler months, and some in December if you don’t hunt. Even 1/2 of January is a no work period if you’re seriously hunting the rut.

The service work in summer, many companies try to make big money, but when they charge 1500 for a fan motor change, thats the last time they will be at that house. And everybody that homeowner knows, gets notified.
“ Whatever you do, don’t use ………”
