3/4" plywood for ground protection

Have a project using a heavy piece of equipment and rather than rent crane matting (way overkill) I'm going to do 2-3 layers of plywood.
1. what kind? OSB? C/D?
2. Where to buy? (Baton Rouge area)

Stuff ain’t cheap so I would buy whatever kind you might use for a later project.

You're looking at roughly $50 a sheet after taxes from places like Home Depot or Lowes for 3/4 x 4 x 8 sheathing grade.
You may come out cheaper renting the mats unless you have use for dirty, tracked up----possibly heavily damaged plywood when done.

It will be cheaper just to tear it up then fix your yard after the project is over.

It won't be if he truly needs that base.

You're right. There are pipes under that area.
I already have 15 sheets. I'll bite the bullet and buy 10 more. Maybe I'll hit up Stine in Walker or another place that'll load it on my flatbed for me.
Then I'll rent a drywall dolly for a week from AAA to make it easier for my employees to schlep them to and from the three spots we need to place the lift. (135' Ultraboom...tres heavy.

Plywood isn't going to do anything for heavy equipment. Rent mats. Probably cheaper than buying a shitload of plywood these days anyway.

How heavy?

Don't use plywood. Rent mats or buy some 2x4s and use the 15 sheets you already have to make (5) mats with 3 layers of plywood and 2 layers of 2x sandwiched together (make sure the 2x layers run parallel to each other).

How big of a footing you need?

Problem with renting mats is I'd need to also rent a yard lift throughout the project just to unload and place the mats, move them a few times, and load them again when picked up.

Yea, it sucks. I just think you're wasting money and effort with plywood.

A 135' Ultralift is heavy AF and needs a pretty substantial base to be safe. I'd be leery with using plywood.

Go rent you a teupen. Light footprint, can set up on uneven ground, and typically have good reach on them too.

Not going to find a Tuepen or similar that'll go that high anywhere closer than Houston. Too many dineros to deliver, rent & pick up. I own a 72' tracked lift, Bluelift brand, but not high enough.
I'll try the plywood/2x4 sandwich idea. I think it'll be okay.

Just curious, how far out do you have to reach and how high? Also, I’m assuming you’re just lifting you and maybe another person?

Two guys, 8 stories, farthest outreach maybe 60'

Damn, you have a stretch on your hands! I think the ultra is the only boom that will touch that makes my knees knock just thinking about it.

So you're gonna put a manlift on shitty ground on 2x4's and boom it out with people in it?
