My cherry tomatoes are starting to ripen, but one variety that I have never grown before is dropping the tomatoes. Never had that happen before.

Do y'all have any tips/ rule of thumbs when it comes to watering? I put my plants into the ground nearly a month ago (April 20th) or so, and they are growing some, but its been very slowly and I'm not sure whats going on. I put in some soil mix that was recommended from the local gardening store and they also recommended mixing in some black kow manure which I also did.

What I've been doing is just checking every morning and afternoon and spot checking my finger, if its dry then I'll water and if its not than I won't. If its dry in the mornings I soak it really well, in the afternoons I'll just do a little bit and then water again in the morning.

Maybe I'm watering enough, but just watering to much? Any tips are very much appreciated.

Consistent watering in the right amount is just one factor in a successful garden. Sun and temp, soil, water.

What plants are we talking about?

Just because you got soil at the garden place doesn’t mean you won’t have to give the plants alittle boost whether it’s natural/organic or not is up to you and how you want to garden.

My first experience with squash vine borers. Is there usually just one grub per plant, or can there be multiple?

I think there can be multiple but I don’t bother to mess with them. By this time, squash is stacking up in buckets at our house.

I looked further into it. Multiple grubs per plant.Looking like a total failure(5 plants). They weren't for me anyway

Tromboncino harvest is a little ridiculous.

My tomatoes keep getting destroyed by birds and bugs before they are ready. Will they ripen up off the vine if they are still pretty green?

No they need to have some color first, then yes they'll finish ripening off the vine. Google tomato breaker stage, tons of resources with pics.

I have lots of birds, and I have learned that they will not fool with my tomatoes until fairly ripe. So, I pick mine when they have a little color. They ripen just fine. The color depends on the variety, as I have grown red, yellow and purplish varieties that all have different partial ripe colors.

I’ve been having the same problem. And I’ve never had a problem with birds. But I’m having to pick my tomatoes early.

I’m picking at about stage 3

Been able to get to IV/V this season for some reason. May be the cat. She's always after a bird.

I’ve got a rabbit problem. They have mowed down my rosemary and petunias.

I have an armadillo problem. Gonna build one of those wooden box traps to see if I can relocate the little bastard before I have to go all Rambo on him.

Just got back from being out of the country for 10 days and the deer demolished my pepper plants, so that’s pretty depressing. Thankfully they left my tomatoes alone and everything else looks pretty good.
