My cherry tomato resurgence is about over. Once more batch of tomato/Boursin pasta and I am done.

borers got to my delicata squash plants...i can smell the vine rot. hopefully theyll hang on long enough to ripen some fruits. i was hoping planting late would keep this from happening

Is there a no borer season? I mean, one in which squashes will actually grow?

typically mid summer but only for a few weeks. Normal strategy is to plant early, harvest what you can while you can and accept defeat when it comes

I plan on buying some of that preferred species to see if they will leave the zucs alone.

For a variety or a place to order from? Or both?

ETA: I overhauled my strawberry box this summer. I went a different route this time around and ordered plugs instead of bare roots. I ordered Chandlers and got them from a place in Georgia called Ison's Nursery. Put them in a couple of weeks ago. They are doing great and are putting on new growth. I think only 1 plug didn't make it out of 50.

Looks like they are still taking orders. https://www.isons.com/product-category/strawberry-plugs/

I order the bare roots because they only cost you about $20 for 15-20 of them. I have had Camarosa and Chandler ones previously. Just be careful when you plant them, you cant bury the growing tip or they'll die.

Amazon has plenty of options.

Winter squashes tend to do better since their stems are a bit more woody as opposed to the hollow stems of summer squash.

I got out today and put in a couple dozen plants already started. Red and green cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts all went in this morning. I need to pick up a few more collard greens since the ones I put in a few weeks ago got cut at the ground-------probably cut worms that have given me some problems in the past.

I got my seeds to direct sow several varieties of leaf lettuce, Brite Lights and Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard, Kale, Beets, Sugar Snap Peas and about 100 onion sets.

I'll probably put in some Snow Peas on my 2nd trellis and pull a nice 20 sq. ft. area for putting in some garlic.

My strawberry order was delivered today. I guess I need to learn up on planting and caring for them.

You ordered from Ison's, right? They should have included a care guide.

Then, there's the LSU Ag guide. LINK

Yes, good deal. Looks like it's as simple as soaking, proper depth and spacing.

Mine went in the ground today. Gave my leftovers to tigerfoot and he planted his as well. I'll mulch next month. Fingers crossed.

Looks like I may actually get a couple of pumpkins this fall! Don’t think they’ll be ready for Halloween, though.

Here’s how the strawberry plugs are doing. They’re looking good so far.

What do we do in really cold weather, and what temperature triggers it?

They'll go dormant and can handle really cold weather with no problem. According to the internet, Chandler strawberry plants can handle temps down to -20 F. All I've ever done was added some extra pine straw mulch over the winter and they've always been fine. I didn't cover during the snowpocalypse this past winter and they were still fine.
