Really was hoping the raised bed would work this year because I didn't want to have to do an inground because I'd have to have my sprinklers rerouted but it just seems a successful raised bed isn't in the cards for me.
Hi, my name it Tigerfoot and I am a bad gardener too! Its been 13 months and 4 days since I picked my last real batch of squash, and my tomatoes get about the size of racket balls if I am lucky.

But one thing I have figured out to those of us with raised beds...they need consistent watering, slow and steady a couple times a day. I will be installing a drip watering system next year. The water simply drains thru the soil of the raised beds too fast. The plant is always in a state of trying to save itself versus thrive and make fruit....then when a little fruit does set, it trys to shed it and leave seeds before it matures. Consistent watering helped mine quite a bit this year. I have let it go aside from a few pepper plants, but I expect big things going forward.

I've got 40 peanut plants sprouting up in three different raised beds.
Never planted them before so excited to see what comes of them.

in 90-100 days when you pull those, you need to dry them. Make sure and put them somewhere that mice cant get to when you do that. We roasted ours in the oven afterward drying and they were really good.

I've had issues with rats for the last year. Killed one 2 days ago after noticing the bite marks on my cucumbers.
Those bastards destroyed my pumpkins last year when I had 4 of them the size of a basketball. I was out of town so I didn't see it happening until i got back. I ended up killing 13 of them in 4 nights.

I need a cat.

Did you trellis your canteloupe or left them on the ground?

I just planted mine as the LSU book says they tend to taste better when planted now and harvested in the fall. First time growing canteloupe for me.

both…the vine took over the bed and is now climbing the trellises in both directions. The melons seem to be too heavy for a trellis though

these were on the ground
taste pretty damn good

I just ordered some melon seeds from baker so I’ll plant some different types later this month

Does anyone know who did this poo in the pepper plant?

No damage anywhere.

But these are pretty big (for a small guy) corn cob/ blackberry looking poos.

Hornworm poop. Better find them quick. Cause you’ll wake up to your plants stripped bare.

We had some hornworms a few weeks ago.

They did strip the plants...but their poop didn't look like corn.

I have been watching the plants daily and nothing is getting eaten so I was wondering if it was something else.

With poop that big I was expecting huge worms and stripped plants but nothing so far...

We love asparagus so I decided I would plant some. I bought asparagus crowns online. They arrived but I was busy with work and didn’t have time to prep my space for them.

They sat inside for a few weeks so I thought I was too late. Then I noticed they were growing through the plastic. Lol.

If they are that indestructible with plastic and no water, they may do okay. Planted them in mid-March. Lots of healthy ferns exploding. Hoping for a dish summer 2025.

awesome

I have an old concrete livestock watering trough next to my well that I’d love to plant asparagus in but I don’t think it gets enough sun. Are yours in full sun?

I have the exact same set up. I added some small plants from seed this spring, but it's so bushy now I can't determine if they lived.

My asparagus plants are in full shade until about 9 am and then sunny for the remainder of the day.

I am still getting a decent amount of cherry and grape tomatoes. I don't know if they are more heat tolerant or if it's due to the partial shade mine get. Peppers rebounding like crazy except for poblanos which aren't doing anything.

Only a few cherries here in TX. Might be the 108 degree temps. Watermelons doing very well as are the squash and peppers.

Have grasshoppers everywhere, anyone have any suggestions to get rid of them?

least I’m getting a few nice watermelon.

These look great. Tried watermelon for the first time and got nothing but vines and blooms. What am I missing (besides the melons?). I planted them along the edge of a raised bed.
