I went out early this morning and cleared out much of the garden. Got rid of everything from the main garden area except the watermelon and jalapeños. They’re the only plants that still look healthy. I pulled a lot of weeds from around the watermelon and jalapeños and carefully sprayed the rest with glyphosate. It was too far gone for me to try to pull all of those weeds. I sweat my arse off early this morning!

The blackberry bushes are producing like crazy again. It’s unreal. The blueberry bushes are looking healthy but are done producing. And the strawberries are surviving the heat surprisingly.

ETA:
Blackberries picked this morning.

This is how bad my garden has unfortunately been neglected.

At least I’m getting a few nice watermelon.

I have my watermelons started. Going to rip up okra and squash to plant them.

I've been getting a few tigger, kajari, and sakata sweet melons. They remind me of honeydew melons.

today we cleaned out part of the beds and planted a bunch of edible flowers, more peppers, and a couple of okra. The pumpkin vine had to go it was muscling the entire bed and about to jump over a trellis into the next bed. The fruits were rotting on the vine anyway

here’s the bean/whatever else is in there patch. It looks like there’s some squash-like plants as well. There’s some peas too but they won’t make it in this heat

Maypop is going nuts. It was covered in orange butterflies this morning

My garden is pathetic. Another awful year of basically nothing being produced but can bring myself to pull everything up. The cucumbers are the only thing that are doing anything. So frustrating. Really was hoping the raised bed would work this year because I didn't want to have to do an inground because I'd have to have my sprinklers rerouted but it just seems a successful raised bed isn't in the cards for me.

I'll takes some pics tonight and post a pic tomorrow.

My soil was a combo with a base of sand, then a mixture of dirt and different raised bed soil and compost. Two of the guys in my office have very nice gardens and I went off their suggestions. Even sprinkled in some coffee grounds. Didn't do Epson salt like one of them mentioned.

One of them looked at my garden a month or so ago and said he didn't think I had enough soil in the bed.

I've done really well with my flowers the past couple of years, it just hasn't translated over to gardening. It definitely isn't from a lack of effort.

One thing I've learned this year is that what you are growing matters too.

If I was judged on my tomatoes (lol there aren't any) or cucumbers (taste good but look stupid) people would say I was a crap gardener. Hit or miss with okra plants.

BUT - we probably have 60 pepper plants and those things are doing absolutely incredible. Same with some herbs.

Same dirt; same setting, same water schedule, etc.

So - maybe try some peppers (if you haven't already) to get your confidence up.

I am the exact opposite.
I've yet to produce an edible bell pepper in 2 spring gardens and 1 fall garden. The plant will barely grow, then produce a few small bell peppers that won't get any bigger than a golf ball.

I have 2 grape tomatoes and one cherry tomato that i just finally cut down and removed this past weeked. I got well over a thousand tomatoes from those 3 plants.
I only planted one big tomato plant and i got about 20 nice tomatoes off of it
My cucumbers have been fantastic. They are crispy and taste delicious.
My pickling cucumbers are still giving me too many damn cucumbers that i dont know what to do with anymore, and they have made some awesome cruncy dill pickles.

Kajari melon. They're small enough to grow on a trellis but they drop when ripe. My wife's dog got ahold of the first one after it dropped without me noticing. He'd been checking this one the last few days since it started smelling. Dropped last night and I had to tackle the dog in my underwear at 4 am to get it back. Tastes awesome.

Any idea how this happened? Looks like a bell pepper growing on my jalapeño plant. I do have both on the same row but separated by 2 banana pepper plants.

I’m new here but-

I heard somewhere when things cross pollinate it only shows up in the seeds of that plant.

So it wasn’t your plants engaging in interspecies relationships. It was the plant you got your seeds from.

Maybe?

This my limited knowledge also. But wouldn’t every pepper on the plant represent the cross/hybrid?

Not that it makes a difference but these were potted plants purchased from a reputable local nursery.

That dog is a menace. I've grown a few different varieties of melons from Baker Creek. Tigger, Kajari, Model, and Sakata's Sweet. The Kajari and Model have been my favorites so far. Haven't picked a Sakata's Sweet yet. The Tigger Melons smell great but have hardly any flavor.
