I was off of work this past week and got a little bit accomplished. Laid down a lot more pine straw mulch. Still need more. I planted all of the okra, purple hull, and watermelon seeds. As of this morning they are all up! The onions are starting to bulb up pretty good!
Also, first time since the fall, I finally checked on my bees and I discovered that there’s been a supersedure. This is the best picture I could get of our new queen since I was working the hive alone. My wife was at work and she is usually the one that takes the pictures.
I definitely need to stay on top of them so that I can hopefully get a good honey harvest!

I went and checked out Hashagen's farm in Wakefield today. They were only taking cash so I was only able to buy some inland sea oats.
He threw in what he called a Black Krim Cherry that he said is one of his own heirloom varieties and a yellow variety of tomato but I can't remember the name. Cool place and really cool dude to talk to. His daughter has around 150 native wildflower types growing on the property along with a couple of areas of native prarie. She's selling a bunch of native plants. I'll be going back with cash.
I pulled up the dead pepper plant I'd posted about a couple of days ago. Nothing looked wrong with the roots.
I replaced it with a Cherry Bomb pepper plant from Ins and Outs.

It’s hard to tell from the picture and I may be seeing things. But it looks like the base of the stem is a little brownish in color? Could’ve had some crown rot. Otherwise, I have no idea.

Your onions are looking good. I’ll try and get some garden pics this evening. Spent yesterday afternoon in the garden, dodging rain storms, and listening to the A&M Bama baseball game. Did some weed burning with the propane torch (which my son can’t believe they allow people to buy), trimmed tomatoes and put a new line up on the weave, picked sweet peas, and did a sneak peak on the potatoes. I need to pull the carrots and lettuce out to plant the okra. I think my black eyed peas are going to have to wait til the potatoes come out.

It was but it wasn't soft or anything like that. Seemed pretty solid. I don't know shite about it, though. Very well could have been. Another looks like it is going limp :(

Weekly photo dump. After backing off the water things are looking much better (and greener). I appreciate all of the advice on here.
My first runner!
Peppers looking much greener
Squash/Zucchini
Watermelon looking better and healthy… just small. Do they usually take a while to get going or do they need warmer temperatures?
Eggplant has a bloom forming
Cantaloupe and butternut squash along the trellis. Yellowish pumpkins along the right side (transplanted as a summer experiment)
Tomatoes
Cucumbers haven’t started climbing yet. I’m wondering if they are getting blocked out by the tomatoes (the row runs east-west)
Beans are climbing though, and we have a leader

Looking great! Glad to hear things are doing better, too!
I was out in the garden a little earlier and was taking some pictures. I’m about to go spray some neem oil. I’ve got white flies and aphids on my pepper plants. And something has been chewing on them pretty good. Nothing devastating, but I need to take some action. I’ll post some photos soon.

Here’s my garden update photo dump.
Here the okra (left) and purple hulls (right). They just popped up a few days ago. I’ll probably start thinning them some time this week.
The beans are starting to climb, and the Dasher II cucumbers (right) are starting to take off. I’m sure they’ll start climbing this week.
The blackberries are just insane and I’m sure my neighbors will be getting a bunch. I just started picking the first ones today. The strawberries are still putting out some nice berries. The blueberries are looking very healthy and I should get a decent harvest this year if the birds don’t pillage them.
Turned a sub crate that work was throwing out into an herb box. Got some basil, thyme, and oregano in there.
Big beef tomatoes
Beefsteak
Tie dye
San Marzano
Roma
Giant Marconi pepper
This is one of the cayenne plants. It’s pretty chewed up. A good bit of the pepper plants are.
Onions and sunflowers are doing nicely!

Not pictured below, I harvested the last of the broccoli just in time before it flowered. Some of it already had, and aphids were starting to take over some of the foliage. Not surprising, as warm as it's been.
Corn is coming along nicely
Tomatoes are just ok. Wind beat them up pretty good a couple weeks ago. They're determinates, but still just did a lot of pruning of the lower branches.
Beans are climbing
Cucumbers are just about ready to start climbing.
A little dill in the foreground, onions behind that, and corn in the back. The onions are taking forever. I seeded them in early December, and the package said 80 days or something like that. And they're short day onions, and our day length is over 13 hours now. I thought the goal was to have them bulb before it got too warm.

I don't know why, but over here in NW Florida, my garden has it going on. I am picking green beans that are 7-8" long. My cucumbers are 4" long and 3/4" diameter, tomatoes are loaded, peppers setting fruit, strawberries doing great, blueberries are loaded. Squash is taking it's time. Watermelon and cantaloupe starting to vine. Picked a 1 pound lion's mane mushroom the other day, and one shiitake yesterday.
It has been a nice spring with cool temps. Usually it is hotter here at this time of year. I wish it would stay like this forever.

My garden is looking nice, but i'm not seeing any bees whatsoever, and i normally have a ton.
I know there's a large hive 2 houses down and across the street from me.
When my redbud tree bloomed in February there were literallly 100's of honey bees and bumple bees on it.
I think the parish came and fogged the neighbor hood about a month ago and ever since then i haven't seen a bee, and i've got vegetables flowering, tons of other flowers as well as hummingbird feeders.
Hardly any of my tomatoes flowers are turning into tomatoes right now.
I also learnt about blight on potatoes, as this is my first go at growing taters. Got me some Copper Fungicide and they look better already.

Your tomatoes are looking great.
How often do you fertilize and what do you use?

I just started using this stuff this year, Farmer’s Secret Fruit & Bloom Booster 2-15-15. I have an injector hooked up to my drip system and I hook it up every other week. I have it on a slow release setting and it usually takes about 3 waterings to empty the tank. I am happy with the results so far.
In the past I've used Sea Grow Flower and Bloom 4-26-26. That stuff is amazing but the price skyrocketed. Shrinkflation also hit. Used to get a 5 lbs bag for about $30. They don't sell the 5 lbs bag anymore. Now it's a 3 lbs bag for about $40.

Looks like I'm in trouble. My wife has been babying a bunch of lettuce for the last few months. We've been able to eat 2 or 3 salads per week from it. I left her dog out in the backyard while I was mowing the front and he went HAM on them. The plants were spread over the whole back yard. He pulled then up and ate the crunchy bases. She's been out of town at her mom's the last couple of days and gets back this evening. I mulched the leaves with the mower and cleaned the beds up. I probably have two or three days before she notices if I don't tell her.
It wouldn't be a big deal but she told me that if I left him out he'd eat all the lettuce. "I told you so" is incoming.

That's pretty funny. Just remind her that's her dog. That should tilt the scales back in your favor.

Do you only use this when things start flowering, or do you do something else before they flower? Do you use any these along with this?

I usually just put down some calcium nitrate at first and then switch to the bloom booster when things start to flower. Nothing else. I used to also use Cal-Mag. But my calcium and magnesium levels are “very high” according to my soil test. So I feel like it would just be a waste of money.

Found the first onion top laid over this evening in the garden. Damn gopher got another garlic, too.
