blossom end rot.
I am not a well versed gardener, but it has to to with the uptake of a mineral the plant fruit need.
As in all things gardening, it could be too dry, or too wet...over fertilized, under fertilized??
I am kidding, but seems every problem I encounter is that way. I used to think you could put plants in the ground then eat vegetables.

Anyone else seeing tons of Leaf Miners this year? I had a small issue with them last year, but this year is nuts. Some of my tomatoes seem to have damn near every leaf affected.
I initially was cutting off and disposing of leaves that had trails but if I would have kept that up I would have had to remove probably 75% or more of the leaves on some of them...
We put out some ladybugs yesterday and have some parasitic wasps coming next week - wondering if anyone else is seeing a marked increase in the various leaf miners this year? Specifically on tomatoes and peppers

But yeah, BER is blossom end rot. Technically it’s a calcium deficiency that causes it. But a lot of the times it’s not because there isn’t enough calcium in the soil. Over watering is almost always the issue cause the plants can’t take up calcium fast enough to keep up with the water influx. That’s my concern with all the coming rain.

I tried to grow squash once, and it was by accident that I bought a squash plant in the wrong bin. Beautiful plant. Every squash rotted after so much promise.

Just ordered some netting, Bt and syringe for the borers as I know some will get through later.

Can’t get SVB, if your squash aren’t up yet!

My first set of Blue Hubbards died in the frost. Had to replant. My squash are bigger and starting to blossom now. The war rages on!

Same here with the leaf miners. They seem to get worse by the day. I’m prepared to go nuclear if that is what it takes. What’s the nuclear option for leaf miners?

Have you grown these before? How are they? I have two plants that I'm about to put in the ground, I lost the first two I planted in the freeze. First time trying them
I grew them. Took me 2 years to get a start worth putting in the ground my my starts are normally really solid. It was weird. Very cool looking tomato. They taste fine enough. Mine had really thick skin though so they weren’t quite as easy to snack on as smaller cherry varieties. They look awesome though.

Had 3.76 inches of rain the last 2 days with some wicked wind. Crossing my fingers nothing too messed up. Sweet Potato slips are supposed to arrive today. Will be digging a bunch of carrots tomorrow for Easter lunch at my Grandparents. Have a great Easter weekend 2023 Garden posters and celebrate with family.

I just looked and I got 5.13" in the last 24 hours.

I'm sure my garden has standing water in it right now.

Still waiting on the rain in St. Tammany. Supposed to rain all day but it kept dissipating before it arrived. I didn't water today, so maybe we'll get a shower tonight.

It's been raining here in BR almost all day.

Sweet potato slips arrived and I was walking out to plant them yesterday evening. Then the wind kicked up to 20mph with rain with temps in the mid 50s. I said f it and walked back for the house and wrapped the slips roots in wet paper.
Any tips on planting these to grow? Can I plant in an end row and let the vines grow out into the grass? Or should I try and wrangle the vibes to stay in the row area? I figure you Louisiana guys are experts at this.
