ETA: A lot of my cabbage has come up and I’ve started thinning them. I still haven’t gotten my carrot seeds, but I did pre order my bare root strawberries from my local garden center. Still need to get garlic, too!

I may have mentioned it earlier(didn't check) but I bought these strange cardboard squares from Walmart with salad type seeds on them and planted them in a raised bed. So far, every single plant looks identical despite the description on the packaging. We will see, as I have tons of tiny plants.

I'll have to take a picture of them later when I get home. But if my pumpkin vines keep going the way they are, I won't have room to plant anything else.

They are spreading all over the garden, into the yard, up my fence... it's spreading like kudzu!

ETA: On the plus side, I'm noticing lots of female flowers now from the small and large varieties! Good problem to have.

same for me with my pumpkin. I only planted two seeds. one of them hasn't done great, i think b/c it was in the shade of the okra too much when it first started. It's about 5' long. The other vine is a good 20' long now and it's going everywhere.
My problem is all i have is male flowers, tons of them.

Is there something i can do to try to induce female flowers?

Now that it's cooled down my broccoli and brussel sprouts look much healthier, as well as my chinese cabbage. I've got some snap beans starting to get big enough to attach to the pole, and some snow peas starting to sprout up. cucumbers just started producing and i've pulled 5 of them this week from 3 plants, with plenty more ready to go.
have some work to do in my raised bed for my carrots, but i think i'll be seeding that this weekend.

The plant will usually set them when it will be able to support the fruit and when the conditions are right. A higher phosphorus fertilizer (bloom booster) should help. Extreme heat or cold, stress, lack of nutrients, and insect pressure are several of the reasons they may not be producing viable female flowers.

It finally rained. And temps aren’t slightly below surface of sun levels. I am planting seeds this weekend.

Tromboncino is growing 3 or 4 inches per day. Have 4 or 5 more on the vines. I can't wait to poke my wife in the face with this thing when I pick it.

Eta: I picked it. I walked in to the house with it and my wife immediately said "no".

Yeah those pumpkin vines are nuts...

Now that it's not so hot, finally getting some butternuts on the vine.

Nice! I really need to try again with them next year. Hopefully I’ll have better luck.

I may need to rethink this next year.

On the plus side, they’re reloading at the moment. I’m thinking there’s probably a bunch growing that I don’t even know about. I don’t think I can get to them. Maybe I’ll get some nice surprises.

Started more cabbage seeds this weekend and some mustard. I’m gonna make a trip to the garden center this Friday cause I still need carrot seeds. I’m a little behind compared to previous years.

I've got some broccoli and cauliflower seeds started. Going to put those in the sweet potato bed one I finish harvesting, probably next week.

Carrots are going in the eggplant bed once I harvest. But the eggplant has been so slow to produce, I might just call it a failure and cut it out to get the carrots started.

I would agree with this. My eggplants were some lazy mofos this year. Not worth the garden space.

The last few weeks mine have absolutely exploded. Had to pick a bunch yesterday to keep the fruit off the ground. My cabbage and broccoli look like crap.

My wife's dog picked the only cantaloupe a little early. After I managed to wrestle it from him I chilled and sliced it for dessert. Was pretty good.

My purple hull beans are starting to climb.
snow peas are slowly coming along, haven't made it to the climbing stage yet.

Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts and Chinese Cabbage all are looking good now.
Bok Choi doing well.

i have cucumbers coming out the wazoo now. Just planted 3 of them and i'm pulling 3-4 of them everyday for the last 2 weeks now. They are delicious and crispy. Going to try to do some pickling for the first time with these crispy cucumbers.
Bell peppers aren't really growing, and i've had about enough of trying to grow bell peppers. Just a waste garden spot and i never seem to get them to do well.

My okra is still going strong but i'll be honest, i'm tired of picking them and i have too many already.

i had two grape tomato suckers that i cut off from the spring. They are both in the ground and doing ok i guess, but they don't seem to be growing too much.
My Krimson tomato is finally starting to grow and look good.

and my pumpkin vines are taking over the entire garden, but i still have no female flowers. I did use to Flower Boom in them so hopefully that helps.

my Rosemary and Lavender surprisingly survived the summer without bolting, and i've got some shallots, thyme, parsley and mint doing well now.

Going to plant my carrots tomorrow.

This is only my third year, but I am about ready to give up. Mine made it through the summer and are really perking up, but all I grow are peppers a little larger than a golf ball.

My eggplant did poorly last year, but this year I had more than I knew what to do with.

I pulled all of my peppers except for the jalapenos. They are the only ones still doing well, and I'd like to pickle a few more jars before the end of the season. The bell peppers were still producing, but I couldn't keep the anthracnose away. I should've known better. Every summer once it starts getting a little too hot, any mild pepper I grow has that problem. I was getting some nice bell peppers for a little while, but I may not waste my time with them next spring.

My peppers went into the organic pile.
I have planted tomatoes, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, peas, carrots, and some kale. I have a row left for onions later this winter and a half row for garlic. Black eyed peas and watermelons are still going. Back hurts.

Okra still coming in. I can barely keep up.

Butternuts starting to look better too. Should I cut some fruit out so the plant can focus on just a few, or is that not important with these?

First Captain Jack pumpkin!

I waited a few days just to be sure. It’s growing and it looks like it’s gonna be a biggun. The size of the stem tripled in size the last 2 days.

ETA: Some pictures from the garden this morning (9/22). The pumpkins have a ton of flowers, lots of females included. I just now realized when uploading that in the first picture there’s a bee flying into a female flower in the bottom left corner of the photo.

I really need to pull some weeds.

I’ve thinned all of the cabbage down to two. I’ll give them about another week and hopefully a clear winner will emerge.

Finally, it looks like most of my other cabbage (left) and mustard (right) have come up!
