That's a very healthy Tromboncino/Zucchino Rampicante squash vine and a beautiful first squash on it.
Thank you!

think you've got yourself a definite winner that'll provide you with a very bountiful harvest, especially with the typical, cooler nights and daytime temperatures we should soon be experiencing in the fall!
I planted 3 of them, I'm guessing I'll be giving quite a few away. I didn't realize how big they get when I planted them. I'd seen them mentioned in the spring garden thread as being pest resistant so decided to try them.

So, almost all my practice pepper seeds germinated in the little starter pots with seed mix. The bag says no nutrients. When/how do I feed these things?

Wait until they have a couple of sets of true leaves and then feed them a diluted water soluble fertilizer. I usually just do all purpose miracle gro at a quarter of the recommended rate.

Yanked up a dying squash plant yesterday. Big arse borer in the base of it.
Picked my first Cucuzzi gourd. It was about 18" long and pretty girthy. Peeled and diced it then threw in the air fryer with Tony's for a bit. Ate the whole thing with a little bit of parm on it. I'll be growing these again.

Hell yeah! Those look awesome!
Making basil salt this morning. I took 1ish packed cup of basil leaves and 3/4 of a cup of kosher salt. Put in food processor then dehydrator.

That sounds like some good stuff. What do you use it for? The wife and I have been saying for a while now that we seem to be in a bit of a food rut. Need to start trying new and different things. We’re kind of set in our ways.

I made a big batch of pesto with some of my basil.
Olive oil, garlic, walnuts, parmesan, salt. Food processor. Freeze in ice trays. Whenever you want pesto, throw a cube or two in a skillet with some olive oil and mix with pasta and shrimp or chicken. Really quick and delicious.

Bringing in tons of okra. This stuff is a champ in the heat. Plan to fry some and saute some. Also looked up some suggestions for cooking the long pods that are woody and tough, going to sear and stuff with jambalaya. The rest go in the freezer for gumbo season.

Not sure yet, this is my first time making it. It tastes great. I broke a bit branch of basil off while mowing and didn't want to waste it. My wife and I usually use the basil to make pecan pesto.

I picked 88 pods this morning. If you've never grilled okra, give it a shot.
I do it 2 ways, loose on the grill since they won't fall through the grate or I will sometimes make a "raft" by using 2 skewers and lining up 10 pods and alternate the direction of the stem end. Skewer them near the stem and then the pointy end until you have 10 of them on the skewers.
To season them I like to drizzle a bit of olive oil and hit the pods with Slap Ya Mama, garlic powder and black pepper. Do this right before you put them on the grill because the pods will absorb some of the olive oil if done too soon and the seasoning won't stick well.

Picked a watermelon today. Probably could have gone a bit longer but was still delicious. Wish it were bigger, not sure if that's just the variety or my soil sucks.

I did something similar with mine in the past that I really liked. Gonna have to do it again next time I grow okra (next year for sure). I halved the long ways, coat with olive oil and blackened seasoning. Cooked them in a cast iron skillet, but I imagine doing them on the grill would be great, too!

I do not know if it's from the slight change in night temps or what, but my peppers that I have kept alive and have been dormant are suddenly putting on lots of flowers. I miss having jalapenos available to toss into just about anything.

Yep. Peppers don't mind the heat. But even they have their limits. The slightly lower temps and rain has brought everything back to life!

My peppers are also coming back to life.
I don't have much in the way of gardening info to share, but I was able to acquire three Paw Paw trees a couple of weeks ago. I planted them in the understory in the front woods of my property. Hopefully they grow well and produce some pawpaws over the next couple of years. Anybody have experience with them?

Before heading to work this morning I walked out to the garden with my flashlight. Had 2 female flowers open from the xtra large pumpkins. Plucked a male flower and did the deed myself just to be sure. Hopefully they take so I can finally get some of them going. And hopefully they’ll be ready by Halloween!
ETA: A lot of my cabbage has come up and I’ve started thinning them. I still haven’t gotten my carrot seeds, but I did pre order my bare root strawberries from my local garden center. Still need to get garlic, too!
