This could be anthracnose.
I dealt with this last year. It will affect the fruit if the spores land on them.
I have been treating this year with Bonide Copper Fungicide and don't see any sign of anthracnose.

Anyone ever have an issue with butternut squash only producing female flowers? I have one decent sized plant right now that has produced 3 female flowers/squash, but all have shriveled up because there are no male flowers.

Just wait. It should start producing males

Just saw one starting to open today. It's about damn time. I was about to start creating some Frankenstein squash by using the flowers from my zucchini to pollinate them.

Blue I’m still eating pickles I put in jars last fall. So damn good. If anyone thought about doing their own pickles you need to. So much better than store bought. Tip if you don’t like the flavor once they are pickles you can add salt, pepper, etc and the pickles will take the flavor in quickly. You just can’t take it back once you add it

I found a jar of pickle spears that I canned 2.5 years ago. Was a little reluctant to eat them, but the seal was solid so I said an Our Father, pulled one out of the jar and took a bite. Ho-Lee-shite. I’m gonna have to age my pickles for a couple years from now on. It was divine!

Got a good recipe? My cucumbers are starting to get to a good size for pickling.

So this is roughly what I did last year. It’s two parts of water to one part white vinegar. Depending on how many jars you are canning is how I did my estimate. Once you sterilized your jars, add your cuces. To each jar I added a tablespoon of whole black pepper, teaspoon of mustard seeds, 4 cloves garlic, tablespoon of salt. After the cans were placed back in boiling water I put them in the cabinet for 5 weeks. Popped a jar open and realized they didn’t have enough garlic or pepper flavor. I also thought they needed more salt. So I added a chopped cayenne pepper with seeds, salt to taste and two more cloves of garlic. Doesn’t take long for the pickles to take in the seasoning. They came out awesome so experiment to what you like and have fun.

Picking the yard long beans already! I have a roma tomato that has so much fruit on it, it looks like a grape tomato. I don't know how it is going to hold all those tomatoes.

Forgot to add dried dill. Think I added a teaspoon

Just in time since I got my first cucumbers today. Also got another zucchini. I’m getting more and more tomatoes each day showing up as well.

I picked 3 Carmen Peppers today. I let them get bright red before I did so. Decided to try one raw and I ended up eating the whole thing. Was not expecting that. Sweet and delicious.
So, now I have a question. Because the yield will likely be high based on the amount of small peppers and flowers currently on the plants. What do you guys normally do with these things? I can definitely see myself adding them to a few dishes. Just wondering if there’s anything in particular y’all would recommend. I’m sure I’ll probably freeze some as well.

I stuff the earlier ones just because they’re normally bigger. The rest, I use for salsas, salads, sliced to sauté or grill, etc. grilled sliced peppers are excellent.

Eat in salad, use in various dishes, grill them, roast them with other vegs, stuff the large ones like you would a bell pepper. I love those dang peppers.

Woke up this morning to find that deer had somehow gotten in and eaten, either 100% or mostly, 15 tomato plants, 2 pepper plants, 2 cucumbers, and my dill.
Many, many, many expletives were thrown around my house this morning. I'm so fricking god damned pissed.

I feel better now.
I'd say about 5 of the tomatoes are total losses. The rest still have some leaves on them, so they should be back, and it is only May at least.

Choot the deer. He’s already stuffed with vegetables. Should make a fine meal!
Seriously, that really sucks. That’s a problem I’ve never had. I couldn’t imagine having to deal with that. However, I imagine that motion activated sprinkler would probably do a good job at keeping them away. Might be something to think about investing in.

This is my first year with a garden. I've been avoiding a garden because of how bad the deer are where I am. I can go out there in the early evening in the summer and see a group of 5-7 hanging out.

That is terrible. I had a garden when I used to live more in the country. I put a lot of time and effort into my garden, and, one year, deer came in and ate every single plant down to the ground. I was so dejected that I don't think I had a garden for almost 15 years afterwards. I live in a fenced residential area now, so birds and squirrels are bigger enemies of mine now.
