Just had some Palisades Zoysia put down around the house. I’ve been watering it daily for the last week. Most days I’ll have to water it later in the afternoon/evening and it’s stayed damp throughout this time. I’m gonna start backing off the watering now.
Should I apply any kind of fungicide? There’s some brown spots in the sod, like on edges of a few squares and some of the squares themselves.
When should I apply a fertilizer to the lawn? Which fertilizer?

what to do about Moles...
My goodness, everything was going well and then they came from everywhere. At least our cat has gotten 3 of them

BOOT. I NEED BOOT. (or anyone really)
So I'm doing a land and lawn business thing on the side. This poor guy in a nice subdivision called me and said some company along the lines of trugreen or something ruined his grass. To me it sounds like nitrogen shock or they just burned it up with something. I'm going to look it at this afternoon. He wants his pretty grass back.
If that's what it was and they just burnt it up, there isn't much you can do besides water it every day is there? I was thinking water it for a while without putting anything on it, then come back in 2-3 weeks and look for weeds, grass growth and possibly reseed or hit with Milo. Whatcha think?

I thought torpedo grass runners usually were below the ground.

What lawn turf?
And the pic above is common bermudagrass.
Sorry I haven't been around much. Things are busy at the ballpark this time of year, and the upcoming fishing rodeo I'm putting on out here is keeping me busy, all while studying and testing for my Captain's license....

no sweat brother, maybe someone will pick up your slack. I just got all my materials to study to get my herbicide/pesticide applicators license.
I'm not sure what turf yet. I'm in Baldwin County AL, so i'm sure it's St. Aug or Centipede. I had to reschedule so i'm actually going by today

Boot thoughts on my issue above?

hey satnights
do you have a pump sprayer? If so, I would buy some atrazine and sethoxydim. the former works great on broadleaves (but make sure you don't overuse) and the latter works great on crabgrass and other grassy weeds.
I think you're right that aerating would help you. I don't think one would fit in the trunk of a car, but I could be wrong... ask a buddy to borrow a truck for a couple hours.
After all that, I would dress with some nice topsoil or sand to promote the grass filling in. Still may have to seed the bigger bare areas tho.

also, check out this article on Brown Patch... I'm not sure you have a fungus, but this is a common culprit

Yes, work on the pH first. A lot of nutrients will become more readily available once the pH is corrected. Then apply nitrogen. I still think fungal damage is what you were battling.
AU, good luck on your applicator's test. Which division are you testing for? My cert is ornamental and turf, but I know some people take the Roadside and Right-of-way (I've heard it's easier). Definitely dont take it lightly! It's tough. That's why people like me never let our continuing ed lapse- don't wanna have to take that test again.

Yea I’m taking ornamental and turf. Who knew they were so many pests and insects....
What type of business are you in?
I have so much to learn. I would love to swap emails with you if you’d be willing so I can bounce ideas off of you.
