Just got my heirlooms started. I'm going to do 3 plantings of ~28 each 2 weeks apart to staggering them along.
I've got:
Big Rainbow
Cherokee Purple
Brandywine
Black Brandywine
Mortgage Lifter
I've always wanted to try mortgage lifter with it's reputation of making 2-3lb tomatoes.
I'll start my squash in a couple weeks.
I'm planting french filet beans for the first time this year as well

I usually only plant 1 or 2 cherries. I prefer to eat big slicers and cherries are a harder sell.
Last year bonnie's mislabeled some plants and I ended up planting a dozen.
I gave up picking them after picking a gallon every other day for 2 weeks.

What is the most cost effective way to fill a raised bed from scratch in Baton Rouge?
Im tearing down my old 16x4 bed but abandoning the dirt there. Im creating a new 8x4 bed but I really need to bring in soil in bags due to bed location and soft ground getting to it.

Buy a yard of topsoil. Make sure it doesn’t have mostly sand in it. I bought organic top with manure in it. Maybe 20% sand. They will deliver on the spot if the truck can get to

If you have to get bagged soil, go to Lowes and look for the Timberline products (topsoil, compost and manure, and peat humus). They are all less than $2 for a 40 lbs bag. Look for ones that are busted (but still mostly full), put them in one of the recovery bags that they usually keep on the end of the aisles at the garden center, and that'll get you 50% off. One of the 40 lbs bags is 0.75 cubic feet. Depending on how deep you go will depend on how much you need. For example, 8'X4'X 6" deep would be 15.93 cu ft. So you would need about 22 bags.
Or you could do like lsuson said and get a yard of topsoil. Wheelbarrow it in if it's in a spot that a truck can't get to.

Here's a graphic I saw on a social media feed today. Helpful re: the question I asked earlier about it being too early to start cucumber seeds outdoors.

If you go cheap, you'll reap what you sow.
Best option is find a good bulk soil like natures best and buy what you need for 35-40 bucks a yard.
I've gone through probably 10 or so pallets of bagged soils and the best combo is 1/2 Baccto potting soil and 1/2 Black Kow. Black Kow helps to reduce the price and is decent quality.
Baccto products are pricey, but are actually good bagged soils.
I've used timberline to start beds. It's mostly sand and bark even when it calls itself compost or topsoil.

Yeah, they're inconsistent for sure. I've gotten some beautiful looking compost from Timberline before. And some god awful looking mess in a bag other times.
But, it's cheap.

Another good guide are "Planting Zone Guides" that you can get on the net. S.E. La. is Zone 9 for a reference. This will give you approximate dates to put the stuff in the ground for best results.

Cleggs sells it by the yard if you have a trailer and wheel barrow

I bought 3 yards of garden mix from Cleggs last year. I had them deliver and dump at end of driveway. Used a wheelbarrow to haul to raised beds. Only problem I ran into was the soil ph was high. I had to add aluminum sulphate to lower.

Cleggs also sells it in their own bags.
