I had covered my bean and cuc sprouts, but surprisingly I had no frost this morning. Even though it was 40 degrees. My dad said it was 43 this morning where he lives (further south than me) and he had frost. Might have a little bit of leaf damage on his tomatoes, but the plants should recover and be fine.

Waking up to see frost of roof tops is a bad feeling with 100+ plants sitting out.

Luckily it didn't seem to hit them.

I planted several Cherokee Carbons last year. Zero fruits. Choose not to start any this year, as I'm moving on to other oddballs hoping to find a few that will produce.

Have you had your soil tested?

How much sun are you getting?

I've planted heirlooms for years now and never had any trouble getting lots of tomatoes. I even weighed my heirlooms production vs. hybrids just to see. The heirlooms were neck and neck with top hybrid recommended varieties.

Good point. My sunlight has not been optimal. Pine beetles helped out with that a bit, so I might get more production this year.

That's me with the Robesons. I went ahead and planted 1 Ch. Carbon. We'll see how it goes.

Plants have been loving this sunlight all week. I've definitely noticed some growth. Looks like one more night that dips slightly into the 40's, then everything should really take off.

This is also the first time I had to water. Been a dry week. Not that I'm complaining.

I’m not far behind

A couple pics from yesterday. The beans are coming up

And it seems a little early, but we have a Cajun Belle.

I love planting beans, squash, corn, cucumbers. Something very satisfying about growing directly in the garden from seed.

Have y’all planted in Shreveport/Bossier yet?

My dad lives in Bossier and hasn’t. I’ve been on him to plant for the past month but he says it’s too cold. He said he will plant a week after this next cold front this weekend which has lows in the low 40s. I told him if there’s no chance of freeze to go ahead and plant! He’s worried about soil temp but he has above ground beds, I’m sure they warm up a lot quicker.

What’s the OB say?

I'm in Memphis so, a good bit north of you but it's suppose to get down to freezing at my house tonight.

I'm still a few week away here (shooting for Good Friday).

I'd suspect you're 3wks ahead of me.

If he hasn’t planted yet, might as well wait till after this cold front. Forecast is showing a low of 42 for Monday where I am. That won’t hurt anything, but it ain’t helping.

Yeah, I've got several cucumber transplants to plant out, but I'm gonna wait until after this cold front. I've got everything else planted out already.

I say it’s your dads garden let him plant when he wants. I know a lot of people that don’t plant until Good Friday.

I built it for him this year as he as had poor results in the past with planting directly into his dirt and he is getting old and can’t do much as he used to but yes you’re right. Just ready to make some of my homemade salsa!

This weather is aggravating. I have had some problems with damping off. I am convinced that we all should just wait till Easter and direct sow instead of trying to get a head start. I'm about over it.

In other news, my lettuce is kicking arse.

I feel you. My tomatoes did not transplant well at all. They’re finally doing alright, but I replaced one Cherokee purple with another from the co-op just because of wind damage. Probably could’ve gotten by without it but it looked like trash. Everything has been kinda stagnant until these last few days.

I also didn’t harden off as much as I should’ve, but I transplanted anyway thinking it was gonna be cloudy for a week. It was sunny half that week .
