Giving TD a slightly sleeker, more modern look...

The overall design of the message boards is quite minimal and sleek, and definitely looks superior to most other boards. However, there are a few design motifs that still seem to be remaining from the designs in the early to mid 2000s, which give the message boards a somewhat outmoded feel.
- Vertical lines separating the columns
- Underlined text for thread titles
The latter is actually somewhat unique to TD. I haven't been able to find another decent looking message board that still underlines text for thread titles and usernames. The mobile version of TD features non-underlined text, and it really does look much cleaner...

Notice how cleaner and less "busy" the boards look without the underlining of thread titles and user names.
The vertical lines tend to give the board a "spreadsheet" style feel, and many forums have done away with such designs completely.
Combining the two design tweaks results in something like this -

So, just a recommendation on some subtle improvements to the look of the boards. Both the underlining of thread text and the vertical lines were staples of website design in the early and mid 2000s. I think the aforementioned modifications may provide TD with a slightly more contemporary and "cleaner" look.

Do you purposely try to piss chicken off or do you just do it by accident?

You really went through all that work to complain about underlining and columns?
Two things that I wouldn't have been able to tell you if TD had 5 minutes ago.

The lines don't bother me.
What would give TD sleeker look is eliminating all the crappy posts. (I volunteer this one.)

You should work for Apple. They are always looking to hire geniuses.

Thanks for the full image links. I wouldn't have had a fricking clue what they would've looked like otherwise.

I disagree.
You don't see many troll's going after Chicken this hard. Plus, he seems to actually put a little effort into it.

he does put a lot of effort into his posts, I'll give him that

I actually like the lines. It helps me orient my eyes and makes things easier to read/locate. Minimalism is not always a good thing. I am not a fan of a cleaner look just for the sake of a cleaner look. I am fine with the layout the way it is.
However here are some features I would definitely be interested in:
1. PM - with the ability to block a person if they start to annoy you. There are times I'd like to ping some folks on the Money Board and bounce off ideas. That is not possible today.
2. Support for TapaTalk.
3. A profile page that shows notifications about your posts that other people have liked, quoted etc.
4. Show number of thread views in addition to number of replies for each thread.

There are still a few websites that employ the vertical lines. It's certainly less pronounced here.
The non-underlined text was actually something I noticed first on the mobile version of the website. It looks far less "busy" and much cleaner, and I wouldn't mind seeing that design element carried over to the desktop version.

The incipient versions of the site actually displayed the views per thread in a dedicated column. It was removed by the second half of 2005.

Great. Now I hate the underline look.

Hey guys what's all the fuss about?

Unless it's a cool toy like the upvote/downvote feature, then I hate change.
