yes. run slowly, build up miles and volume, and leave a few days between your last long run and the event. kids and life have prevented me from running the way i used to.
e.g., I had a grand total of 80 miles between a half marathon in feb 22 and feb 23 (and similar the previous year span) and just went out and ran it. i'm almost 50. go slow af (8:48/mi and 9:15/mi were my last two untrained half paces--no injuries; sore a couple days).

i run several half races a year and at least one a month just on my own. granted these are almost all trail runs in colorado at elevation - my last one was breckenridge to copper mtn, section 7 of the co trail topping out at 12,495) - but i'm slow and don't care. average pace on that one was 17.14. flatter runs are more in the 11-12 minute range. it's all about the experience
