Working out only one side of the body?

Train one extremity to gain strength in both
Has anybody trained like this? Is this legit?
I’m looking to change things up in my workout besides alternating reps, weights, exercises, and the order I do the exercises.
I just worked out my right leg this AM and it felt weird. The calf exercises were a lot harder. I’m going to do the left leg on Friday. I’m going to do this unilateral workout every other week just for legs now and see how it goes.

If you can't work out one side, yeah, there's a fair amount of scientific basis saying unilateral training will still get results and help offset atrophy on the side you can't work.
Work both sides if you can, obviously, but if one side is out, unilateral training on the other side is better than nothing. Having done it, it's not a magic bullet, but helps a lot vs inactivity.

Following
I have a knee/ meniscus injury I’m rehabbing that has caused my left quad to atrophy significantly.

Why the frick would you do that unless you are handicapped?

Well, obviously if you are injured it would be beneficial, as a poster has already stated. Really not sure if it is a good change of pace workout for a non injured person.
Here are a few more studies that supports this claim.
PLOS research
Journal of applied physiology

It works but it should only be used if you can't workout the other side.

It works but not as good as working both sides. Nothing wrong with doing all unilateral work but do both sides.

And wtf do you need a change of pace for? Successful lifters milk a program for everything that it's worth, but if you really do need to change pick a program from a know coach that is known for success.
