I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks now. I eat at 10-11, 2-3, and 6. Avoiding sugar, only eating complex carbs like oatmeal and sweet potatoes. Lost weight every week. Haven’t exercised since I started the diet due to tendentious. Expect to lose more when I start back.

ETA: I’ve been doing a complete fast one day a week. Tuesday. Drink water and tea all day.

If I were to begin IF, when is recommended to lift? I know fasted cardio is big on this board, but should a lift be done while fasted or not?

I can only speak from personal experience. I'm at the gym for 6am and don't eat until 6pm. I drink tons of water all day and will use an electrolyte tablet if I feel I need something mid day. Saves a ton of money and I get to eat steak 5-6 nights a week.

I have seen great progress as far as aesthetics are concerned. When my focus turns to strength training I'll mix it up but I'm enjoying having abs for the first time in my life

Short term fasts help reset hunger signaling. Really doesn’t have a thing to do with caloric control, because, given the time to adapt, one can eat 3,000 “Calories” in one meal. IF has its place and isn’t a gimmick.

Hell, American didn’t even eat breakfast, which wasn’t even much of a concept, until cereal became more available in the early 1900’s. So, before that, regular ole Americans were really IF without really naming it. They’d typically wake, work the fields for 1-3 hrs, and have an early lunch. “Americans” during this time, were considered the healthiest, tallest, and richest (per household income) than any other country in the world.

Early, colonial, American farmers were considered “lazy” to their British counterparts, as they grew easy crops that needed little attention (tobacco) and wild game was ample so the need to tend was minimal. The only real tending was children keeping the pigs out of the gardens.

Is it skipping breakfast, thus having less calories in a day?

Or does it still work if you have the same amount of calories you normally would, just in a 6-8 hour time period?

Watch my man here:

Shredded Sports Science "Does Fasting Build Muscle"

It definitely works when you have a caloric deficit. Buts thats fat loss in a nutshell anyway.

Some bodybuilders use it to stay lean during a bulk. But thats a full calorie, non-deficit, nutrition plan. the theory being that if you exercise (low intensity) while fasted, you'll burn more fat because your body wants to burn fat. its better for energy. But if you do high intensity, you're body burns muscle because its less dense and easier to burn quickly for energy.

There are studies that disprove that it helps "burn fat" more than anything else thats not caloric deficit. Some studies show that it decreases protein synthesis(muscle building).

It worked for me to lose fat but I cut a meal out and had a deficit. It also basically took out my heartburn/GERD issues.

Shredded Sports Science has a lot of good info. He uses multiple studies to form his opinions, not bro-science. He also sources his studies so you can read them.

His biggest point, and best, is that physiology cannot be tricked. you're body works how its supposed to. Fad diets and "tricks" don't work. Caloric Deficit is the only proven way to lose body fat.

I'm not expert by any stretch. I would look up studies on this and read up on it.

Edit: The other thing he plugs is that you cannot measure your body's response to anything in hours or a few days. its better to go week to week to measure your success.

Hope this helps!

I've noticed on myself that I appear to be leaner in the mornings. If I eat a "large" meal, i get bloated.

I cut carbonated drinks out of my diet so that helps too.

Its crazy how much there is to eat that will bloat you.

I love sugar, but i love how i look more when i can say no to sweets.

I'm the exact same.

Every Friday or Saturday I'll crush a large pizza + cookies or whatever and blow the frick up for a day . By Monday I'm back to where I was.

I know it's not the most efficient path, but it keeps me sane & still seeing great progress.

I have to go for a walk after a carb heavy meal. If I sit still, I'll fall asleep at 6pm for 5-10 min. then I'm good til 10.

Watching Hodetwins vlogs pertaining to IF and lifting weights gave me better perspective on what to expect and how it all leads to more fat burning (overall) if you sick w/ it.

They basically fast for 16 hours (from 8pm to 12pm = 16 hr fast), then they lift weights (to burn fat in their fasted state), then they eat nearly everything they want for 8 hours.
These guys used to be pudgy, nothing going on for them until they found IF and started lifting w/ fidelity. They have a ton of videos on YouTube, and they will give you straight talk (not like some doctor trying to sell you his advice in a book), watch the Twins and decide for yourself.
