Last year around this time I started walking long distances outdoors when they closed gyms in the name of public health (lol). Anyway, it ruined the treadmill for me up until it got jungle hot in June. Planning to walk my 6-7 mile courses again this spring with a weighted vest. I’m thinking I don’t need to exceed 20 lbs...? It’d be nice to be able to adjust the weight if needed. Any recommendations on any particular vests?

It doesn't really matter. Just get one with adjustable weight. I got a cheap one off Amazon with sand bags that goes up to 60 lbs. Put 40 lbs on and you'll really start to feel a burn. I guess plates may be easier to take in and out than bags

Rogue

This is what I use. Easy to use, not very expensive and holds up well. They have better ones, but all I really use it for is weighted walks.

5.11 Tactec Plate Carrier

Cast Weight Plates

This is what I’ve got and I love it.

I have a Wod Tribe and it's the same quality as 5.11 but cheaper. If you are just walking though, there's cheaper options than a plate carrier that will work fine

Ordered this from Dick's 3/30 last year when gym equipment availability was anemic to train for Murph (which I didn't end up doing unfortunately). It meets my needs, but have never gone above 20 lb with it. Does start to become lose and bounce while running.

A few guys at my CF gym compete in the Tactical Games. One has this plate carrier, which might be my next. I've also looked in to the Rogue Condor as a cheaper plate carrier option.

Has anyone ever used weighted vests successfully for jumping improvement? I know it’s a benefit if used in training correctly but not sure how much.

I’m about 6’ and 41 years old. I added some jumping exercises in past year and closer to dunking than I’ve ever been. I just need that extra little bit of explosiveness. Also the adrenaline that is sometimes there from pickup games.

YouTube videos on form, flexibility stretches, and jumping programs have helped and being so close makes me want to try whatever might help.
