Morning y’all,
Started back on my fitness journey about 2 months ago having a goal weight of 240 before hitting the beach. (Was at 260) Made a weight of 239.8 the day we left by doing low carb and mostly running/lifting 4/5 days a week for 45 mins to 1 hour.
Go on vacation with a relaxed mindset from Thursday to Sunday. Came back weighing nearly 12 pounds heavier. Obviously I know my diet wasn’t in check, but it always throws me off how quickly the weight can come back on even in a few days. Anyways, got back at it this morning with weights and cardio and will continue to grind.

12 lbs over just a few days is mostly just body water. It should come off quickly after your diet and exercise routine is back in check.

Like others have said, definitely water retention.

You said you were doing low carb. I am assuming on vacation, you had plenty of carbs, even if just from drinking.

This will cause you to retain a lot more water.. Adding back in more carbs will cause more water retention whether on vacay or not..

Remember You didn't lose 12 pounds of fat in a few days, so you definitely won't gain 12 pounds of fat in a few days..

Everyone is right, that 12lbs is not real lingering weight.

You will pee, poop and sweat that 12lbs out over the next week if you are returning to you eating and exercise habits.

You are worrying too much about short term fluctuations. It takes ~3000 calories over maintenance to gain 1 lb. So unless you consumed 36k calories over maintenance in 3-4 days on vacation (highly unlikley), you're good.

Just stay off the scale for a couple days when you get back from vacations in the future.

Yeah I understand. I appreciate all the feedback. I was pointing out the variances and how quickly it can add up.

Water and sodium weight. 2-3 days of HIIT and you’ll be back to normal

I usually gain around 8 pounds every weekend. Don't worry about the scale, just trust the process

I usually allow at least two weeks before I step back on the scale after vacay. It’s mostly water weight so you’re not getting a true picture.
