Anyone tried the Brooks Hyperion tempo?

Just sold my pair actually. I liked them, just didn’t have a solid place for them. On tempo days I tend to grab Zoom Fly SP or just go in my Hoka Rincon dailies. Didn’t like the feel of the Hyperion at slower paces so couldn’t work for a daily either. Good shoe though. Really good looking, great upper...just not for me.

This is exactly why I bought them. I figured even if I didn’t enjoy running in them, they’ll make for a great casual shoe. Super light weight, perfect fitting upper, etc.

Dick's has 25% off for Cyber Monday. I carted Alphflys, Endorphin Pros and Brooks Hyperion Tempo & Elite and the Brooks were the only 2 that were eligible for the discount. I'm intrigued by the Endorphin Pros, but would like to catch them at a discount.

Shoes.com had the endorphin pros at 30% off a few days ago. Pretty sure they’re gone now.

If you get a jackrabbit coupon, they’ll discount the Pros as well.

Any Nike ZFFK OG lovers recommend a comparable shoe in their current lineup? Ran in them today and forgot how much I loved them (and crossed over 250). I get lost in the current %, tempo, %, etc, etc, I don’t even know what’s supposed to be the replacement.

I think the closest thing would be the ZF3. I actually feel they are more stable than the ZFFK. I don't have the feeling of falling off a cliff when I corner with the ZF3 that I have in my ZFFK.

Thanks dude, I was acutally just looking at those, had forgot all about em. The stack height on all the new Nike's is just insane.

Nope. I’m saving mine, only like 45 miles on them. They’ve popped up at Marshall’s, Burlington and Ross for $50, so keep your eyes peeled. Haven’t tried them yet but seems like the Endorphin Speed may ride similar.

ZFFK are a softer ride than the Endorphin Speed. He also asked for something in the current Nike lineup. I think I mentioned it before that I haven't really found anything that is really similar to the ZFFK. They just feel like pure pillows under my feet. The ZF3 is really close and I use them more than the ZFFK lately, especially if it rains.

Running shoes recommendations?

I am not doing a 5k. This is for exercise. I run 1 mile 2x a week right now. My goal is to get to 2 miles 2x a week and then go from there.

I’ve been way out of the running loop after my Hoka’s went dead in early December. Skrimped by using some other shoes, but none seemed to work well. Grabbed these 1080v10’s on sale from running warehouse for $114 shipped. Also had 40% off to Asics and got a pair of the Gel Nimbus Lite 2, but no clue when they ship. Anyway, I’m just pumped to have a daily again. Hoping the 1080v10 is as good as advertised.

Have you ran in them? I really liked them in the store but I was worried it would feel like the back of my ankle was slipping since they don’t touch.

Not yet. Hoping I can get 3 or 4 miles in them tomorrow, have soccer today so no runs. Tried them on and walked around the house and didn’t notice any slipping. I’ll post an update tomorrow.

I’m sure there won’t be, they are a very popular shoe. It just bagged at me so I went with something else. I’m thinking about trying them next go round.

Yeah, they’ve been on my radar for a while but seem to rarely go on sale. Running Warehouse marked them all down to $104 + tax on 1/1 so I struck while I could. The v11 is coming soon, so the v10 should continue to be discounted if you’re in the market.

1080v10 is a good shoe. If you’ve been spoiled by super shoes, or even the endorphin speed, it won’t be anything exciting. But it’s better than hokas and most other daily trainers on the market.

I wear mine casually all the time. I find them to be very comfortable and reasonably stylish.

As long as we are on the subject of maximalist shoes, I picked up a couple of pairs of the Skechers Go Run Ride 8 at at 60 bucks a piece. 250 miles in, these are the brand’s best shoes by far. They are durable, a little firmer for more more energy return without being hard, and the upper is actually true to size (also sub 9oz for size 9). I always say never buy Skechers at full price because you’re only getting 2/3rds the durability for the price of a normal running shoe, but I wouldn’t have felt ripped off for having paid the full 115.

Another maximalist shoe I have that just does not work for me, is the Alpha Fly. I recognize that this can be a great shoe for some people, but this shoe absolutely beats me up. I’ve had two bad races in them and have not had a single good run after 40 or so miles. It feels like I’m running in a shoe that has a negative drop, not 4mm. Like the Speed Elite, the forefoot is a barrier to overcome in my stride rather than propel me forward. Unlike the Speed Elite but similar in the way I feel about the Escalante, I can tell that this a well thought out shoe that has potential for some people.

I wish the Escalante came in a 4-6 drop, but that shoe injures my Achilles every time (sorry zero drop mafia).

I think I’m done with Nike. I just can’t get a Nike shoe to work for me except the Next, which is still not a great underfoot experience.

Bummer about the Alpha but I’ve seen that opinion expressed by others too. It’s a love it or hate it shoe. Good news is there is now an insane amount of carbon plated shoes to choose from. Competition has definitely caught Nike, even with the dailies. Infinity React was meh, Peg 37 got luke warm reception, React Miler is , Tempo Next% got blasted. They did update the upper for the infinity which will help and they’re about to release a max cushion trainer using ZoomX midsole.

I was all aboard the Epic React 2 train, and I liked it when I was training in it, but I think my form or gait changed bc last time I ran in them they beat me up. Favorite shoes so far have been the Rincon but they went totally dead at 190 miles.

Yeah, the Alpha just obliterated my quads and calves. Most other Nike shoes mess me up with the heel slippage which irritates my Achilles as well.
