Started about a week ago. Can’t recall a specific instance of crazy pain where t started. Just started feeling it one afternoon after jiu jitsu. Doctor said it “looked” like a meniscus strain. Feels like some muscle/tendon residing between the bones that form my knee is just irritated as all get out. Definitely feel inflammation; icing obviously helps, knee brace helps, but it still throbs. Taking Motrin on the regular. Worried it could be something else. Any thoughts, experiences?

If you’re not trusting the doctor, go to another one. Do some light movements with it to get blood flowing around the area. Try heat when not icing.

You can tear your meniscus. You can strain a muscle. You can sprain a ligament.

The fact your doctor has trouble with this basic nomenclature should prompt a visit to another doctor.

You need to do a quick 72 hour water fast followed by a fasting focused ketogenic WOE. It will drop all your inflammation markers to the point I bet your knee pain goes away.

I would see an ortho specialist in a week. Ice, heat and rest. Easy on the Motrin. You want to feel the pain. If it doesn’t improve in a few days, schedule an appointment. It may just be a strain.

ETA: Heat before light mobility exercises and ice after to subdue inflammation. Do not do resistance until it is healed.

Because it’s true? A fasting focused Keto Diet is extremely anti-inflammatory.

Update: inflammation has spread slightly. Still feels “inside” my knee. Seeing a doctor again tomorrow. Icing definitely helps, so does the brace.

I want to say if I posted about getting a bullet to the knee and asked what to do for the injury, I'd get:

So if I cut off my arm in a chainsaw accident I should:

Sounds like your diagnosis for everything. Next time this happens, I will go your route

Update 2: doctor ran me through the motions, tested all my ligaments and tendons again in my knee. Printed off a sheet of exercises to strengthen my knee (from the same website he pointed me too the first time). Gave me Celebrex instead of Motrin.

I stopped using the brace on a hunch; inflammation inside the knee went down significantly the next day. Now my biggest issue is a tight lower hamstring (behind the affected knee) that kind of “clicks” when I step, like it’s catching on something. The stretches/exercises seem to help a smog, but not sure if it’s just because it’s getting more blood flow.

Weird/frustrating injury.
