Here is my question. What is the best way to have a proper cleanse. I feel like I am carrying alot with all of the cheese I have been eating. A cup or two of community with chicory used to do the trick but not anymore. Any good ways to clean out the system without be beholden to the porcelain throne for a whole weekend?

Aside from just mental reasons there no reason to “flush.” You can put some psyllium husk powder into a glass of water and down that if you really feel like you need it.

You can also drink the ketoaid in the OP. If you drink the correct amount it will keep you regular.

Lol you’ll know when you’ve drank too much because your stool will be very loose. For me it’s more than about 3L a day.

No you probably made it correctly. You just have to get used to is or use the stevia sweetened Mio.

NVM saw you said Diet Mountain Dew.

Yeah I am really struggling with this "addiction" if you will. Probably my only vice. So today I have a 12oz bottle instead of 20oz and bought some Gatorade Zero for the next several days to attempt to turn the tide. I am 59 and in great shape (6'1", 176) and know DMDew is crap. Just gotta wrap my head around it. Lol. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Recently I've been noticing that alot of foods taste sweeter to me - even things like bacon and eggs. Has anyone else experienced this or know why it happens?

I will say that since I've been Keto my sweet tooth has pretty much disappeared - I never imagined that I could go without sweets, but I just don't want or crave them anymore - even when I'm surrounded by them.

Oh YEAH! I fixed something for my daughter the other day and got a drop of ketchup on my finger. I tasted it. HOLY CRAP! It tasted like sugar. I've noticed that all foods are tasting different than I remember. It's cool and weird.

Instead of diet Mountain Dew with a million chemicals and coloring drink Zevia instead. It is sweetened with stevia and has no coloring.

When you’ve been living your whole life ingesting 20+grams of sugar in common everyday items it desensitizes your taste buds. It’s a lot like cigarettes.

Also FYI there’s usually a small amount of sugar in bacon if it’s been cured. You might actually be tasting that. I always get uncured bacon because it lacks nitrates.

Good news: As of this morning, I'm officially down 14.4lbs!

Bad news: I cheated majorly out of obligation today (coworkers made me stuff for bday lunch). I'm planning on fasting now until dinner (my OMAD) Friday.

In cases like this, is there anything more I can do to get back on track? A 72-hr fast isn't possible right now because I also have a dinner Friday night with the in-laws but it will at least be Keto-compliant. TIA!

A way is next time tell them your dietary restrictions prior to the birthday lunch. However, right now to get back into ketosis faster just do a water fast and you can supplement with BHB if you want.

Good job on losing all that weight!

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! It was actually a surprise, so I was caught off guard. I know I could have explained to them, but in this case, their feelings were more important to me than one day of progress.

I am fresh into keto and have been finding a few conflicting calculators that tell me what protein, fat & net carbs I should be getting. I am 37 about 5'9" 192lbs and have a pretty low active life (for now). My goal weight is 165-170. My plan is to get my diet down before I start working out again. Taking all of this into account, can you tell me what my macros should look like, please? Thank you in advance.

The easiest way to do this is download carb manager. Type in your stats and select a Keto macro profile which is 75% fats, 20% protein, and 5% carbs (always keep carbs <20g net regardless of let’s say 5% is 30g. Make up the difference with protein). You also can select the amount of deficit you want based on how much you want to lose and how quickly.

I could do it for you, but it will be most beneficial this way for you to be set up to log your food as well.

Just wanted to give my experience with Keto. Started Jan 10th at 5'9 and 150. Wasn't necessarily trying to lose weight but wanted to lean up as just working out wasn't cutting it for me. I can now start to see results. Currently 143.

I also got some unexpected results. I have been on blood pressure medicine since I was 35. Currently on 2 meds. Blood pressure the past several months probably averaged 132/93. Past 2 days blood pressure has been 110/73.

Any thoughts on supplementing with exogenous ketones while getting back into ketosis?

I personally don’t use it, but if you had some BHB it wouldn’t be terrible. The only time I would use it though is to get back into ketosis like you are talking about.

Any tips on budget friendly Keto shopping in BR?

Alexanders has some pretty good options but they are pricey.

I’m not anywhere remotely near BR, but you can get everything and anything you need at Walmart. Don’t over complicate things. If you can afford grass fed, grass finished beef that’s awesome, but is in no way necessary to succeed at Keto. Here’s the staple foods for Keto...80/20 ground beef, ribeye steaks, eggs, heavy whipping cream, butter, coconut oil, and cheese.
