said same thing.. people will downvite you.. but it makes sense. He womt gain weight on diet dp.
Diet drinks are bad for other reasons.
Switch to tea sweetened with stevia. My go-to tea is Earl Grey (Republic of Tea). I’ll brew 3 quarts and toss it in the fridge. Pour a glass with a packet of stevia and you will be good to go.

Why not drink diet Dr Pepper?
I’ve given diet DP an honest shot several times. It’s truly awful tasting to me. I can barely drink half a can without being disgusted.
Ive got some good ideas to try from this thread. Im curious if the keto thing would actually make me not crave DP. My doubts are because almost anything I eat makes me thirsty. When I get thirsty, I get weak.
I’m also going to try the diet/regular dp mixing idea. The weaning off slowly is probably my only hope.

It’s interesting with all your athletic and educational accomplishments,Dr.Pepper addiction has got such a hold on you.Maybe a Pica thing, get a medical evaluation good internist.
.
The way I quit smoking was through mental imagery or visualization, what ever you want to call it.I had like a movie going on in my brain,I would picture myself in hospital bed with cancer, emaciated with tracheostomy, struggling for breath.I would be coughing blood, snot out my neck, really gross stuff.Whenever I got to craving cigarette I would play this video in my mind,I could see it clearly ,like watching YouTube video.Craving would soon pass.
Maybe you could try same technique, when you start craving Dr.Pepper pull up image in your brain of a obese you,,man boobs, pendulous abdomen, the whole bit.
If it makes you feel any better,I know a very smart M.D.that had the same addiction to Coca-Cola and he was diabetic to boot.He was mixing Diet Coke with real Coke, trying to wean himself off the sugar,Riding around hospital in scooter because his feet were in such bad shape with large fountain Coke.Made no sense to me.
Good luck and congratulations on your professional accomplishments.

Our paths have been very similar (LSU ME, distance runner, etc) however my addiction was to Coca Cola instead of DP. After grad school and into desk job career I was at 6-8 cans per day. I'd get headaches if I didn't have a coke by 11AM. I started to get really bad heartburn so I started taking antacids. One day I just decided at lunch I didn't want the heartburn so I skipped the coke. That day led to another and another and so on. It's been 7 years since I've had a soda of any kind. I never thought I could go cold turkey but I did. Maybe you should try it one day at a time like the AA stuff. Also if the carbonation is important, Topo Chico is really great and has no sugar or calories. I dropped a lot of weight just due to the soda and I don't get heartburn any more. Also because of me, my wife quit drinking sodas and my daughter has never had one (hopefully not for a long time).
Good luck!
Good luck!

Now I know why the suspension sucked!
Just kidding.
Quiting all sugar was more difficult than quiting smoking. However both have been always short lived for me.
I think it has a lot to do with the habit and finding healthy new habits to replace the bad.

My sil, 48 yo drinks 12 20oz sun drops a day.... she’s killing her self.
Posted on 7/17/19 at 7:47 am to Possumslayer
That's gotta be expensive
Posted on 7/17/19 at 12:16 pm to Bama and Beer
Not as expensive as all the medication she is on now.

Holy wow - I wouldn't even know how to start that conversation. Have you?
Posted on 7/17/19 at 10:00 pm to Possumslayer
Holy frick! That’s almost 3500 calories/ day from just the Sun Drop alone. If she’s not 400+ lbs it would be a miracle.

My wife and the doctors have talked to her till their blue in the face... no one knows what they’re talking about, I feel fine.
She’s almost blind.

Denial is a strong, strong avoidance mechanism.

Did I mention she just had to see a specialist because her previous blood test was so screwed up they thought she had some form of leukemia?

What about trying the calorie free caffeine drinks? Like Bang.

Man, I drank a can of coke each day for many years. Ended up having to pay oop for a couple root canals and quit cold turkey. Was really tough for about 2 weeks but now I don’t miss soda at all. In fact, my tastes changed and I don’t even enjoy it anymore. I’ve found tea is a good substitute for the caffeine. Unsweetened. You won’t regret quitting soda.

Your body still has an insulin spike from the aspartame or stevia. This insulin spike will result in fat gain.
Bet yes, drinking diet is better than the real deal for weight loss...outside of the side effects of aspartame on other body functions

I’m a Dr Pepper and fast food fiend, and those two feed off each other. Sometimes when I’m craving a certain fast food, it’s really just a want for a Dr Pepper fix but end up with both.
Have decided to put both down. The closer I get to 30, the harder it’s been to lose the weight like I used to. Giving myself a challenge to quit both from now until football season, with plans to continue not having it past that point (just want to be able to put a time frame out it for now). There’s just too much good food out there to waste cheat meals on the same fast food but childhood eating habits die hard. For sure gonna check in this thread here and there.
