Have any of you cured a pinched nerve on your own?

I've been stretching, going to the massuse and getting chiropractic adjustments for about two weeks and it's not improving.

I can't run, work out or even sleep.

The real doctor just wanted to give me pain meds/shots and I'm not about that life.

Anyone with experience? Suggestions? Running out of options here it feels like...

First of all, I’d it your neck or low back? Secondly, a pinched nerve, depending on what is causing it, may take a lot longer than 2 weeks to go away. If the adjustments aren’t helping and you want to stay as natural as possible, go to a physical therapist instead of chiropractor. You may need traction or the appropriate stretches to get the pressure off the nerve. You may needs meds to control the inflammation and relax tight muscles that may be exacerbating the problem. I’m not saying it’s always a necessity but it usually helps a lot. Pain meds in the other hand are usually less help. If it isn’t getting better with therapy and meds then maybe an mri is appropriate to see what the problem is. Give it some time though. Sometimes takes a few weeks to notice any difference even with meds.

Neck

Thank you. A physical therapist is the next step.

I had multiple people tell me about this so I will give it a shot first.

The link didn’t work but I’m assuming you were trying to link a traction device. It would definitely be reasonable to try that before therapy because it can be very beneficial for a nerve pinch.

Dry needling can certainly be beneficial but I typically lean toward decompression from traction being more effective. They do work well together. Really depends on what’s doing the pinching.

I have an issue with my neck that is probably a pinched nerve that if I drop my arms quickly enough, I can’t feel the tips of my fingers. Would be curious to know how to fix that.

First of all, I feel bad for you. This shite sucks.

Second, I've become very skeptical that anything other than time and favoring the location actually help.

Was this caused by an acute event (i.e. you heard/felt it happen mid-rep) or did you just wake up with it seemingly randomly?

Out of curiosity, where is the pain expressed? When my cervical was acting up, sometimes, the referred pain was very far away from the neck.

Have you had an MRI? If so, are there any other problems with the disc? If you have annular tearing and/or dessication, then there is nothing to be done for that.

Unfortunately, I would not expect any of that to work...and it COULD make it worse. Depending on how bad the disc is (an MRI could show if it was herniated or not) impinging on the nerve, there's a chance that it won't fix itself without surgery (not as bad as it sounds.)

What kind of "real doctor" did you go to? Any decent neurologist will probably tell you that 40-50% of these things can heal themselves. But in the interim, it will just hurt.

I chime into many of these to push McKenzie Therapy. Just google it. It’s a branch of PT that can be done at home. Correction, a few of their movements can be done. Very basic and minimal but worked for me and they can be done anywhere.

All about decompression and centralization of the pain. When you google it these will make sense. Gentle to moderate neck traction was great for me as well. I almost bought one but improved.

This. I had a pinched nerve at C1. It was brutal. Went through the same ordeal as the OP with the shots, etc... Ended up going to a chiro with a decompression table. Saved my life, literally. Well that, and lots of ice.

It is seeing very slow improvement but I am still completely sidelined right now. It's an awful feeling knowing I'm losing my body I've worked hard for. If any sort of physical altercation came up or I needed to protect myself or my girlfriend, there is nothing I could do.

It's really messing with my mind.

But, it is improving.

I'm doing the Mckenzie stretches, neck decompression with something I bought off Amazon, ice packs on and off all day and smoking a lot of weed for the pain.

It jacked with mine too. I was maybe the strongest I had ever been and was fast tracking my way to my Black Belt in BJJ until I got hurt. My injury actually occurred while training BJJ. That injury shut down pretty much every activity I enjoyed doing. Even fapping was an issue.

Just stay on the rehab and you will be back. Maybe not 100% but at least you will be back.

Which is why you resist the urge to credit any of these "cures" or treatments with success. Your body is likely to return to its mean over time.

You may be right, but these "treatment" are also having an immediate impact.

Stretches and then an ice pack will take my 8/10 pain level down to a 2/10 for a few hours.

That's good. You should definitely continue abating the pain however you can. If you don't do the stretches and just do the ice pack, what happens?

It’s a mechanical pressure on the nerve. The stretches are designed to open the space where the nerve is pinching to relieve pressure and thereby relieve pain. They also help to relieve the muscle spasms that further cause compression and limit mobility. Doing only ice may help just as much in the short term for relief but probably won’t help as much as doing it along with the stretches.

The body certainly probably will heal itself most of the time in the long term vs surgery. But doing stretches, tractionand modalities such as ice can most certainly provide quicker relief, mobility and return to daily activities.

Just wanted to update, if nothing else just so I can have something to refer back to as I continue to heal.

I'm improving but still taking ibuprofen a few times per day.

My body is gone. I'm down from 175 9% body fat to 150 and probably 15-20%. I am probably the weakest person I know.

As mentioned before, my mental state has suffered much more than my physical.

Currently doing physical therapy, neck traction, ice and stretching. Pain level is anywhere from a 1 to an 8 depending on my level of activity.

I'm going to give it till the end of the year and then consider surgical options.

Damn dude.

I sometimes get a pinched nerve in my neck that shuts me down for 2-3 days, but nothing like what you are describing.

I'd get a second opinion. Your issue may be much worse than a "simple" pinched nerve.
