Anyone on the board ever been diagnosed with it? My Dr is sending me to a Rheumatologist because he suspects it I may have it. Just curious what I'm looking at and what the future holds.

I don't have it (yet) but it is rampant in my maternal family. If you have it, it's an autoimmune condition where your body is attacking your joints. Over time, your cartilage and such will deteriorate and it will become very painful. How bad it gets depends on severity and if you take care of your body. My family has it pretty bad and they generally don't take care of their body so my pawpaw has had a total hip replacement recently and has already had a knee replacement in the past.

I hope you don't have it.

By "not taking care of themselves" do you mean they are overweight?

The main two courses of action are either treating the inflammatory response (NSAIDs/steroids) or suppressing the immune response (MAbs etc.)

Low doses of Methotrexate are also widely used to help treat both the inflammation and immune response from the body, and work well in conjunction with Biologics.

Stay away from prednisone and methotrexate.

Find a rheumatologist that will treat you without powerful steroids.

Methotrexate is a bitch sometimes.

Unfortunately I have suffered with R and O arthritis for years. Tried all the biologics (my advice is stay away from them) and methotrexate... self-injection worked better that oral intake. For the last several years I've been on Hydroxycloroquine and this has been by far the best treatment for me.
