This question is mainly for my trap workout. I have a garage gym and since dumbbells are so expensive I have a set of the bow flex dumbbells from 5-52.5 pounds. Basically my trap workout right now consists of heavy shrugs with the barbell then 3 sets of dumbbell shrugs at 52.5 pounds, holding each rep for as many seconds as rep I’m on going up to 10 seconds on the last rep. Will adding time to each set increase muscle growth? For instance if I’m holding up to 12 seconds?

I’m leaning towards no on growth, but you’ll get stronger for sure.

Also, look into power blocks as a viable option for dumbbells.

Buy rings. Do inverted shrugs. You’re welcome brah

Science says yes, real world says yes to a point. You will continue to make gains to a point where the weight is too light to cause a true stimulus. I.e. eventually you have to get stronger and up the weight

Also, sooner or later, the time will just be too long. The studies I've seen, 30-45 seconds is ideal for a work set.

Soon, that will be insufficient for real growth.

Yep

And like Sabi said rings are a great cheap alternative.

If ya want growth hit them at more angles.

But yes increasing tut will help growth, mix it up though.
