Late 40s
Workout mid-day before lunch
Follow up with 1 Scoop of Dymatize ISO100, creatine, collagen
Eat lunch (prepped meals)
Cardio in evening

Was following the other thread on shakes, and want to add more to my protein shake. If I do so, and take it right after my workout, I’m concerned with not eating my lunches.

When would be the best time for me to have a shake?

Yall get so caught up in bullshite that doesn’t matter. You’re doing a 45 minute low volume workout, just drink the protein if you want to, or eat 3oz more of meat.

Damn

So are you saying in short… anytime, doesn’t matter?

protein intake within 24 hours of a workout is optimal, drop the shakes and just increase your protein intake through natural foods.

Studies show it doesn’t matter.
Hitting daily protein goals is what matters.

Whenever you want. Protein is going to be your most important macro, followed by fat. Carbs are just going to fill in the gaps in calories that you didn't hit with the other 2, or if you're trying to gain weight.

My take, and this is what I do, is to get at least 50g at the 4 meals I have each day (11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm, I intermittent fast).

Protein shakes should be a supplement, not your diet, because the body has a better track record of absorbing nutrients from foods that it has to break down instead of taking it from a liquid source. Also, important, Protein is what sates your appetite

Don't worry about the old dogma of, "Your body can only absorb 20g of protein at a time." This is pretty much BS. Also, the whole, "Too much protein will hurt your kidneys" is BS as well. There is some drop off with immediate protein absorption, but it isn't as dramatic as once was thought and depends on the person.

TLDR version: Eat 1 gram of protein for 1lb of bodyweight you are looking for. Spread it out during the day if you can, but it isn't required. Solid food is better than liquid shakes.

Hope this helps.

For the majority of people, not really as they aren't doing anything on the high end of the spectrum for it to make a massive difference.

If you are doing super intense workouts and are like a top 1% type of physique, yea there can be some more optimal times, like within 30 mins or maybe an hour of a workout at the longest. Will it make a massive difference? No, but if you are at the point where the smallest variances do make differences, there you go.

The rest of the world, its far more important that you just get your protein and hit your amount goals, optimizing when it happens is pretty irrelevant.

Yeah drop the shakes. Your body doesn’t absorb all of it and there’s usually a bunch of sugar in those anyway. If you look at elite body builders they hardly ever touch them.

1. That’s not true
2. The same guys that die at 40 from steroid abuse? The real epitomes of health

I just take mine everyday after my workout, which is about 5:30 to 6:00 PM.

Usually what I do. As scottykfitness likes to say, it's not that serious. The differences in taking it within an hour or so of your workout and outside of that window are marginal at best. What you can do consistently without fail, that's the route to go

I do 165g a day minimum, but I mostly rely on food to get there. I drink a Fairlife shake every morning with creatine on the way to work and thats it
