Preventing Dementia / Alzheimer's tips

I attended a seminar recently that included a segment on 'Keeping the aging brain young'. While there can be genetic impacts, my biggest take away is that our lifestyle habits today have the most significant impact on whether we develop Dementia or Alzheimer's in the future.
Apparently the brain weighs about 3 lbs and produces 5 lbs of 'waste' each year. The brain self-cleans this waste every night when we get good sleep. Most of the tips for getting good sleep were somewhat obvious (although our society continues moving in the wrong direction) and it was also mentioned that taking sleeping pills long-term can block the ability of the brain to self-clean.
Getting regular physicals very important as untreated hearing loss, diabetes, heart health, gingivitis and other issues can increase risk.
Inflammation is of huge importance. CRP markers should be part of routine blood work. When inflammation is high, the Microglia that eats the brain waste (each night) sometimes gets confused and will eat brain tissue instead.
Stress is good for this process if it's not overwhelming. Even better is learning a new sport, Tai Chi, instrument, or taking up dancing since it releases a chemical in the brain that breaks up the cluster of brain waste that can develop over time.
Lot of other stuff mentioned that I can elaborate but the above were the key points.

Eating clean, exercise, stress management, and sleep is solid advice for everyone.

This is a time when ketosis is actually a major help.

From everything I've seen I don't think it would be possible to get Alzheimer's if you were on a ketosis or carnivore diet. That channel has a ton more videos using studies.
But with any study nowadays, it is important to remember

This is a starting point.
Avoid risk factors like anticholinergenic OTC drugs like Unisom. Avoiding an Alcar deficiency is helpful.
One of the base issues is reduced bloodflow. Really anything that encourages healthy bloodflow is a positive. Food wise, beets have been shown to enhance bloodflow.

Diet, diet, diet first. Finding a purpose in life at that age is next and that could include exercise. I'd have to imagine a paleo-like diet without trash foods would be good enough. As mentioned, ketones are protective.

Sleep on your side, not your back. The brain has a lymphatic system and it has been shown to clean better at night when someone sleeps on his/her side.

Yep. I have spoken to her several times. I am persuaded that Alzheimer's really is "Type III Diabetes". Just cut the sugar way way back (and by sugar, I mean any non-fibrous carbs) and you are likely to be good. (Helps to avoid cancer as well.)

Pretty much everyone has given good solid advice here.
Essentially act like a responsible adult. Earn any carbs you have, lift weights to stay physically active and stimulate the brain as often as possible. There are some others like mentioned that help

What others said + emphasis on Sleep. Get deep sleep while you're youngish because it wanes with age and you can do lasting harm by not taking advantage of the better deep sleep of youth.
I always recommend Dr Matthew Walker's book (or listen to his Attia or Rhonda Patrick podcast eps w him) on Sleep. It will move it up your life's priority list.
