Pop! Goes the knee…what now, baws?

Worked up to a squat max last Monday, everything felt pretty good, went home and squatted down to untie my shoe and heard a loud pop in my knee - like bubble wrap. No pain.
Fast forward to today - clicking sound with every step only when I walk up the stairs. Pain on the side left of the knee cap coming out of the bottom of the squat on every rep. Not stiff, no mobility issues but it definitely feels unstable while walking…sorta loose, like my knee wants to hyper extend backwards.
Is this just some inflammation or did I tear my meniscus?

Go get an mri. Nobody can tell you shite until that is done. Anyone that tries is lying. Get the mri if it doesn't get better.

Sounds like what they call a meniscus tear. If it is a jagged type tear or worn down enough you get the click. Sometimes you do not get that and one cortisone shot calms it down and if you do or to develop the muscles in leg you are fine.
Surgery is to smooth it out so it does not click if needed.

I had the same thing after doing some squats years ago.
I didn’t do anything about it until years later when it popped again but much worse so I went to doc, got mri and bingo-Meniscus tear
No remedy except take it easy and avoid lateral movements

Insurance made me wait 6wks for MRI to do PT first, so start first visit early.
