Running the full in Houston this weekend. Targeting a 2:58. Anybody else running that one?

Nice! Looks like a good forecast for y’all. Have to come back and report your thoughts. I’m thinking about adding that one to my list

Hoping to crack 4:30. I didn't log enough miles. mostly in the low 30 miles per week, topped out at 40.

weather looks perfect and will be shite 12 hours later. Lucked out.

karma for the half I did here in October when it was 90% humidity and 78 at the start. The next morning was in the 50s and dry. I've done a few halfs now and I have never seen people hurting like that.

Houston marathon treats you right. I've done the half. The pre-race setup up great. Tons of bathrooms and space in the convention center so you aren't freezing or waiting to piss.

my father in law is on track to finish the 6 majors by next year, curious to hear what he has to say about running the houston half.

Maybe do the one for a week or two if you’re worried about recovery but if you can squeeze in a shorter one after without it messing you up it’d probably do you some good.

that’s awesome. My ultimate goal. I’m hoping to knock out NY this year to get the ball rolling.

Anyone running the Louisiana Marathon on Sunday? I've never participated before but I'll be running the half and going for a PR of sub 1:40. Weather is looking ideal for a speedy race.

A friend of mine is going for sub 1:30. I'm not in shape right now so I'm skipping, but weather looks great. Good luck!

forecast is taking a bit of turn. As long as it isn't too windy i can handle 30s

quote:

Sunday
Alright, here’s where the uncertainty kicks in. We’re just coming into range of some of the higher-resolution models, which tend to do a better job handling the timing of colder air masses like this. As we see additional model runs today, we should continue to get a better focus on the timing of the front. So I want you to understand that my confidence is low here, and we’re going to need to write the forecast in pencil for a little while.

With that said, the high resolution modeling is indicating that the front could reach Houston by around sunrise on Sunday. Yes, you read that right. If this is the case, temperatures on Sunday morning could be in the 30s for Houston marathon, with northerly winds. (I don’t expect precipitation at this time). This obviously is a significant change from previous forecasts, and something we’ll need to fine-tune. Again, it depends on the timing of the front.

A widespread freeze looks likely for Sunday night, with areas inland of Interstate 10 possibly seeing lows in the mid-20s.

As to the question of freezing precipitation, there are hints of it in the models but nothing concrete. We really need to see more data from the high-resolution outputs before I have any confidence. For now I’d rate the chance of seeing any wintry precipitation, either in the form of sleet or freezing rain, at about 25 percent. I still don’t think it will be significant issue for roadways, but obviously it’s something we’re going to be watching closely.

Well that’s certainly interesting. I’m with you—as long as it’s not super windy, I’ll be good. My hope is for it to be around 40 degrees at the start, no wind, no precipitation.

ETA: keep us posted on what that guy says after more models are run. And if you see a baw in a white Pelican State Running singlet on Sunday, come say hey

How bad is the Houston Marathon going to be?

The answer to that question depends on your preference I suppose. I would expect temperatures perhaps dropping as runners are in motion. We may start in the 40s and drop into the 30s or start in the 30s and hold steady throughout. The wind? It doesn’t look horrific, but it doesn’t look great either. We expect northeast to east winds of 10 to 15 mph or so. There will certainly be some gusts near 20 mph at times in there as well. The more meaningful wind should thankfully hold off until Monday or Tuesday.

from space city

not ideal like it look early in the week but thankfully no rain.

i wish i was faster

I don't know the course, any chance those gusts will be tailwinds?

wind is nne.

maybe a little for the first six or so miles.

miles 11-18 are going to blow. 12 is an overpass that is really the only big elevation besides a few rolling underpasses at the end.

the half is going to be taking it in the teeth the entire last
