Ran 13.5 yesterday at 9:02/mi. First time running a sub 2 hr Half since turning 30 5 years ago. Put in that distance several times since then, but yesterday I was really focused on getting it sub 2. Was proud of myself for about 10 minutes until I realized that it's plausible for me to run a sub 1:55:00 at this pint in my training. This is now my next goal.

Nice!

Hit a 10K this am @ pace - 8:13/51:00 - sticky icky. Felt like I could have been a bit quicker if not for the weather of course. Got out a little bit later than planned. 30 minutes earlier start would have made a difference.

For me, any 10k under 55:00 is a good day of training.

With dawn breaking later and later, I'm having to dust off the headlamp soon. The road I frequently put my long runs in on is dark and book-ended by swamp. Running up on an alligator taking in the heat of the pavement is a very realistic possibility. South Louisiana problems.

Trying to get my pacing down for the Northshore race (HM) in a couple weeks. 10K has been my longest actual race distance up until this point (years ago). I want to break 2:00:00 but also don't want to leave anything on the table. Inputting my recent 5/10K times into online calculators puts me around 01:55:00. I ran a Half this past Fri as an easy run in about 02:08:00.

I can only hope the damn weather actually feels like fall on race morning.

Have you checked out Hanson’s race calculator? Plug your 10k race in and see what it predicts for your half.

I found it to be within a minute of accuracy on the longer races.

Everyone is putting up some great training results. I’m really happy that I found this thread and it’s going to get even more fun as racing season starts.

13 on saturday at a nice and measured 1030 pace. Was it just me or was there just the slightest tinge of a cool breeeze for a couple hours Sat morning in BR?

More importantly for me - down 21 lbs since the end of July. Makes running easier for sure.

Yeah, I've checked out Hanson. It puts me at 01:53:00. I'd be pretty happy with that as my 1st.

And yeah this thread has been tremendous help & motivation for me.

Ultras sound kinda fun, my knees and ankles won’t let me do trails though :(

Am I foolish to think I can improve enough to try and Boston Qualify at some point next year (for 2020 or 2021?)

If your over 40, maybe, but I’m pretty sure I’ve got a few years on you and I’ll need low 2:50s to actually get in. I think you can do it if you get some speed work in. You’ve got endurance in spades.

You should give lake Fayetteville trail a shot if you haven’t. I ran it for the first time a few weeks ago and I think I’m going to do it again soon.

One last thing. The race director contacted me and said she DQed the 2 dudes and is investigating the girl so that’ll move your result up at least 2 spots maybe three in case you cared. I kinda feel bad for them but there was a displayed lack of integrity.

30, so got some time! Definitely need to work on the speed.

And that means I got top 5! I’m wondering if the girl meant to decline her award or thought she would be DQ’d, because she wasn’t there to accept it, somebody else got it for her.

Did you get down voted for your previous post?
I thought it was funny

Gave the 4% a try this morning. Originally I thought that maybe I would try and push it, but woke up sleepy and my calves are still sore from Sunday.

Ended up running 5 at 7:47 pace (hopefully race pace)

Felt pretty good, definitely different. Hard to really explain. A lot of energy return and feel like you are being propelled forward a lot more than any other shoe I’ve worn. If you are a forefoot runner, these will do nothing for you however.

I’m a major heel-striker, and after just 5 miles you can see where i land first. I definitely don’t strike mid unless really picking up pace or up hills, should I try and change this at all?

Yeah I did.

I can't help you on your stride but my new Altra Torins are making the back of my knees ache after I get done running or walking. During they don't bother me a bit

I run mostly with three shoes, all a slightly different drop and weight. My fear would be that I would enjoy those too much, see too good of results, and not be able to run in my more modestly priced shoes. On the flip side, there is a chance I would not like them at have $300 shoes collecting dust on my shelf.

I know you said you're in Prairieville, but I'll be running out on the St. Tammany Trace this upcoming weekend if you wanted to join me. Figured you might want to get a look at the course you'll be running on for your half. Hit me up on Strava if you're interested.
