Good run!

Thunderstorm hit 2 miles into my long run. Saw it coming. Thought it would go the other direction, it didn’t. Raining so hard I couldn’t see. Ducked into a park gazebo to wait it out but kept getting worse. Decided to suck it up and head back home. Rough 4 miles, will try again this afternoon or tomorrow.

Slept in too late today and paid the price with the heat. Gotta get back in the groove of waking up before sunrise.

I did the same thing this morning, though it felt really good sleeping in until 8:30AM. I also didn't bring any water with me, which wasn't smart for running 13 miles in 80° heat. Luckily I ate something before my run and brought a gel with me.

Cut the morning run short so I could go fishing today. Instead of 15 miles, I got 6. Nice run with some elevation. Averaged 9:15. I’ll add some miles tomorrow.

Blew a tire. Destroyed the fender on the trailer. Replaced tire. Burned bearings less than a mile down the road. Had to wait two hours in the sun with an unhappy wife and dog until a tow truck could come get me. It sucked. Shoulda ran the 15 and skipped the fishing!

Guess that blows away the old saying of “a day of bad fishing is better than a good day at the office.”

I have highs in the low 80s this week with some mornings in the 60s. May be the kickstart I need to start getting 20 miles a week again.

yeah. i don't know if i'm anywhere near getting mile time below 6:30 right now. i did have a half decent sprint run yesterday for a half mile, but i'd wager i would struggle to go sub 7 these days.

we did however just find out that my wife hugged a covid infected child a week and a half ago so we're quarantined for another week.

Yikes, that sucks!

Yeah, I have zero leg turnover right now and would struggle to run a 6:30 ish pace mile I'd imagine. Gonna just coast till August, when my son starts pre pre School and I'll have more time to train and have a clearer picture of Fall races (hopefully).

I did back-to-back 11-milers on Saturday and Sunday to hit my weekly goal. The humidity got to me during the end of my run yesterday. I felt fine for the first 8 miles or so but picked up the pace after that and shouldn't have. I had to really take the last mile slow, and I felt wiped out the rest of the day. Of course, the water fountains were off in all the parks, so I will need to remember to bring water for my next medium long run.

Yeah! Looking at the map it may have overestimated how quickly I completed, but either way it was good.

Question about planned track day in my weekly schedule-->

I have to work up from 4 × 800m for the first 9 weeks and the plan calls for a real track.

The track I use is closed for resurfacing so can I do these on the road with same benefit?

If the braintrust here thinks the track is superior, I'll eat the 45 min drive. If the road works that would be better.

My goal is to keep them under two minutes per lap and hopefully work to the 1:35 range per lap consistently.

My goal marathon pace is 9:03 for 10/25.

You can absolutely do them on the roads. I’d want to do them somewhere flat did consistency.

Do you mean 2:00 minutes per 400m? That time for 800m is a bit fast lol

Haha, yea, 2:00 mins for each 400m lap , I do crazy things like burn out or hold back every time...it is never smooth for me when I do two laps.

I'm thinking the road might actually stop me from thinking so much.

That's good news that the road will work, I'm happy to hear that, it will make it much easier and not a burden.

In quarantine, I've found that the block around the high school is exactly a mile. I use the 4 straights as a 400m when I can't get inside the gate of the track.

Sometimes I love getting on the track. Other times, 800m repeats feels like mile repeats.

On a side note, wife bought me some new shoes for Father's Day. Got the New Balance Fuel Cell TC. Haven't road tested them but did a mile on the treadmill and they feel amazing. I tried the Endorphine Pro but felt these were a better feel.

kballa & hogbody,

You are right....being off the formal track was awesome. I got out of my head and just ran in a straight line until my GPS went off.

Although my times were better than the track the biggest thing was I felt like I ran harder the entire time.

Not really concerned with time, more about pushing when my legs get heavy. Much easier on the road.

I ended up getting mandated to work an odd shift this week, so I had to miss my run this morning, and my sleep is all jacked up now. It looks like I will have to make some adjustments to my training schedule. It was probably time for a reduced mileage week anyway. I'll probably end up doing about 33 miles this week instead of 44 and then resume at 40 next week.

Once in a blue moon I will do intervals at the track, but vast majority on the roads. I program the workout on my watch and just try to keep it flat as possible. As long as your watch is accurate you should be good.
